摘要:
Abstract:Considering the importance of chief nursing officer (CNO) turnover, little is known. Using data published annually by the American Hospital Association and other public sources, a national sample of 102 hospitals was studied for a five-year period to determine CNO turnover rate and hospital characteristics affecting turnover.

摘要:
Abstract:The implications of using broad-based DRG data versus more specific clinical data must be presented when implementing a hospital-based case management program. Administrators and nurse managers must collaborate when defining and applying appropriate financial indicators and implementing critical paths. Knowledge of patient populations and case types addresses both quality and cost.

摘要:
Abstract:To maintain quality patient care while reducing overtime costs, a change in the traditional verbal shift report was needed. A pilot study examined alternate methods, format changes, benefits and nursing recommendations. Using a computer-generated nursing care plan cover sheet, a change was made to an automated written shift report.

摘要:
Abstract:A staff recognition program produces a chain reaction. Receiving the award increases self-esteem and social gratification. Giving the award fosters autonomy and leadership qualities. Through staff participation and recognition, morale and job satisfaction increase, which in turn raises the quality of patient care.

摘要:
Abstract:To move beyond illness-directed behaviors, a Recognizing/Needing graph directs nurses to present environmental stressors, needs and suggestions for future interventions. Assessment questions focus on illuminating meaning, synchronizing rhythms, and mobilizing transcendence, encouraging them to adopt health-directed behaviors.

摘要:
Abstract:A multipurpose six-page, three-fold flow sheet improves patient outcomes, meets JCAHO standards and facilitates easy tracking of a patient's progress. The flow sheet is divided into nursing process, expected patient outcomes, critical pathway and variance report. Outcomes management is an effective process to control costs and improve patient outcomes.
