AbstractDie vorliegende Arbeit berücksichtigt 231 Publikationen über die Produktion und den biologischen Umsatz organischen Materials insbesondere im Pelagial limnischer und mariner Ökosysteme. Zunächst werden die verschiedenen Sestonbestandteile und die gelösten organischen Verbindungen quantitativ und qualitativ beschrieben. Bei den Primärproduzenten wird besonders das Phytoplankton betrachtet und auf Beziehungen zum Trophiegrad eingegangen. Anschließend erfolgt eine Untersuchung jener Prozesse, welche zur Entstehung von toten partikularen und gelösten organischen Stoffen führen. Der Eintrag allochthoner organischer Materialien wird kurz behandelt.Ausgehend von den konventionellen Vorstellungen über den Umsatz der Primärproduzenten in Weidenahrungsketten wird auf neuere Ergebnisse eingegangen, welche den Umsatz von toten partikulären und gelösten organischen Materialien in Destruentennahrungsketten beinhalten und dabei die zentrale Stellung der Bakterien diskutiert.Die Zooplanktonpopulationen eutropher‐und oligotropher Gewässer werden hinsichtlich ihrer Nahrungsbiologie sowie populationsdynamischer Aspekte verglichen. Abschließend wird auf Versuche hingewiesen, die hohe Primärproduktion eutropher Gewässer durch den Besatz mit planktonfressenden Fischen verstärkt wirts

AbstractSome physical and chemical investigations of the lower reaches of Tigris and Euphrates as well as the upper reaches of Shatt al‐Arab in Iraq were studied. The transparency showed local and seasonal variations. The Secchi values were markedly low due to the relative turbidity of Tigris and the maximum Secchi‐disc values observed coincide with more sedimentation in Euphrates. The lowest Secchi values registered in April are attributed to the considerable increase in the amounts of suspended matter carried by the floods of the rivers. The slight decrease of water temperature with depth is related to the mixing processes. Considerable seasonal variations of air and water temperatures were observed. The lowest temperatures were recorded in January (winter) and the highest in August (summer). The temperatures gave considerably high values in April and October, since the region studied lies within an arid climate.Seasonal variations of pH were recorded and attributed to physical and biological changes in the region studied. The relatively high average pH values found in August and October give a good evidence for the phytoplankton abundance under better environmental conditions. The increase of the chlorosity content at the stations A, B, II and IV is mainly due to the effect of the brackish water from Hor Hammar on these localities. The dissolved oxygen showed remarkable seasonal variations and gave the highest average values in January and the lowest in August. It was concluded that the source of dissolved oxygen in the region studied is more related to the atmosphere than the photosynthetic activity, and the mixing processes as well as the water temperatures are the main factors affecting its concentration and distribution. The results obtained show strongly that the water characteristics at the stations I, II and III were different. This is a clear evidence that Tigris joins Euphrates at Qurna forming Shatt al

AbstractStudies are performed on the toxicity for 24, 48, 72 and 96 hours in the static test with dilutions of 10 … 32 vol.% of wastewaters from the pulp and paper production as well as of the mixed wastewater. The pulp waste shows the highest toxic effect, the LC50of the three types of wastewater being between 15 and 27% in dependence on the test conditions. A general increase of the toxic effect is caused by a rise in temperature from 26 °C to 36 °C and an increase of the pH value from 7.5 to 8.2. The increase of the oxygen concentration from 5.2 to 7.2 mg/1 results in a reduction of the toxicity of the pulp and mixed wastes, the size of fishes having a significant effect only for the pulp waste. AbstractDie kinetischen Eigenschaften der Ionenaustauscher sind für das Kurztaktverfahren von ausschlaggebender Bedeutung. Das Kurztaktverfahren vereinigt die Vorteile von niedrigen Anschaffungskosten unter Beibehaltung eines niedrigen spezifischen Regeneriermittelverbrauchs. Es zeigt sich, daß beim Einsatz der Gegenstromregeneration bei stark dissoziierten Ionenaustauschern ein nahezu stöchiometrischer Regeneriermittelverbrauch bei hohen spezifischen Belastungen erzielt werden kann.
