摘要:
The live bed concept has been used through the coupling of Liu-Hwang resistance equation with Einstein- Brown sediment transport concept. Two expressions were deduced to get the water depth, bed width and longitudinal slope by giving the water and sediment flows together with the particle diameter. A total of 176 collected field data from stable channels in U.S. A., Pakistan, India, New Mexico and Egypt were used for the verification of the proposed model.

摘要:
Oscillatory flow produced near a seabed by linear surface gravity waves is analyzed. Using the boundary layer approximation, the problem is reduced to that of a boundary layer near a plate harmonically oscillating in a fluid at rest. Saffman's turbulence model is employed. Results on the ensemble averaged quantities are presented for Reynolds numbers ranging from laminar to fully developed turbulent regime, and for small, intermediate and large values of the roughness parameter. Based on the above model, a numerical fully nonlinear stability analysis of Stokes' solution is performed, and the unsteady transition from laminar to turbulent regime is investigated. The reliability of the analytical results is supported by a comparison with experimental data collected by others.

摘要:
Experiments on round vertical turbulent buoyant jet have been performed using tap water as the jet liquid and saltwater solution as the ambient liquid. Measurements were made of the centerline axial velocity and the centerline and radial concentrations. The integral forms of the momentum and tracer equations were integrated on the basis of an assumption concerning a function of the spreading coefficients. The validity of this assumption has been verified by the experimental results and the analysis led to unified analytical expressions concerning the axial velocity and concentration distributions along the jet axis. The present findings are discussed and compared with previously reported works.

The results of experiments on jets of neutral or small buoyancy discharging horizontally into a stagnant, linearly stratified fluid are presented. The jet was found to grow initially as if in an unstratified fluid, and then to abruptly collapse vertically and intrude as a horizontal density current. Results are presented in terms of dimensionless length scale ratios for the distance to collapse, the collapsed layer thickness, the entrained volume flux, the thickness of the entrained layer, and the rise height for the slightly buoyant case. Turbulence properties at the point of collapse were estimated, and it was found that collapse occurs when an internal Froude number for the largest turbulent eddies near the edge of the jet becomes equal to about 0.75.
