摘要:
The paper deals with the problem of assessing the accuracy of suspended sediment measurements in open streamflows. The essentials of the gravitation and diffusion theory are presented in the introduction together with practical examples of measurements on the Drava River. Employing a Monte Carlo method and the theory of experimental design, the discharge of suspended sediment through a schematic cross-section of an open streamflow was simulated. The influence of the following five factors on the accuracy of suspended sediment measurements is examined:

Analysis of velocity profiles plotted in defect form indicates that the Karman coefficient is independent of the amount of suspended sediment in an open channel flow. Contrary findings, based on earlier data by other workers, are due to error induced by ignoring the existence of the wake flow region. The wake strength coefficient is a function of the gross flow Richardson number.

摘要:
For a square bight (= square basin with two neighboring open boundaries) residual flows are computed 1) by (semi-analytically) solving the time averaged tidal equations, 2) by numerically solving the tidal equations and time averaging the tidal flows. For a semi-enclosed basin, residual flows are computed by numerically solving the tidal equations. An explicit finite difference technique is used for the numerical solutions.
