摘要:
Based on a literature review, the most general equations are given for steady channel flows with increasing discharge; one-dimensional flow and hydrostatic pressure distribution is assumed. The prismatic, rectangular channel with arbitrary bottom slope and the non-prismatic, rectangular, nearly horizontal channel are investigated in detail. For these, equations are solved for arbitrary up- and downstream conditions. The solutions are illustrated by examples and comparison is made with experiments.

The usual hydraulic jump with separation zone above the flow zone can be approximately treated by balancing momentum in the flow direction and perpendicular to it. These relations yield the simplified characteristics of the jump; they are discussed and compared with the results of a typical experiment.

摘要:
Tropical cyclone wave spectra in deep water have been put in a universal form similar to the JONSWAP spectra. Average spectral shape parameters were defined from values obtained in the open literature. Spectral level, peak frequency and significant wave height correlations with dimensionless fetch were obtained from Gulf of Mexico hurricanes Camille 1969, Eloise 1975, Edith 1971 and Felice 1970 and compared to tropical cyclone waves in the Eastern and Western Pacific. The data indicates that the correlations obtained can be useful for climatological studies of deep water tropical cyclone waves.

Both the hydrodynamic force acting on a bridge submerged in open-channel flow and the head loss associated with this channel obstruction are being expressed in terms of a force coefficient and treated theoretically as well as experimentally. The results of systematic force measurements are plotted in the form of resistance diagrams to show the effects of all relevant geometric parameters and the Froude number in the most generalized way. For increasing Froude number, the flow is shown to change from a submerged condition to free flow, detaching from the upstream-most girder like from a sluice gate. The force coefficient for this particular case is predicted with the aid of momentum and energy equations. It is suggested that this value be used to estimate the peak loading acting on the submerged bridge due to wave motion between the girders induced by flow instability and vortex formation. The paper concludes with a practical example in which the results of this study are applied to a particular case of bridge submergence.
