摘要:
This paper investigated food habits of two Chinese populations, one in Chine, the other in the United States. Investigated were: difficulty in obtaining food items, beverages consumed at meals, the number of main meals, people eating them, number of dishes served and use of special foods for the elderly. Responses received from 337 or 90% indicated that foods were not difficult to obtain. Ninety percent drank soup at meals, 27% tea and 20% water. Other beverages were 10% or less. Main meals eaten, their number and people eating with the respondents varied but few differences exceeded 10%. Special foods were bought for the elderly by 58% and about half were foods high in protein. Overall, similarities were more striking than differences.

摘要:
Seventy elderly persons were surveyed in an attempt to determine the best way to use television for delivery of nutrition information. It was discovered that this audience preferred its television nutrition information in a straightforward, serious format. The utilization of a variety of television programming conventions was examined, as were the respondents' food habits and their level of nutrition knowledge.

摘要:
Seasonal eating pattern comparisons of 104 independent living persons with mean age of 68.3 years were investigated during winter and summer seasons. Questionnaires and checklists of personal data, eating habits and food patterns were used as data collection instruments. The dietary intakes of an independent living elderly population during two seasons were not adequate in the number of servings per day from all four food groups in the Daily Food Guide. An improvement was seen in the summer survey for the Fruits and Vegetables Group. The dietary intakes of couples were found to be adequate, but were lower for single women and single men living alone. Factors of season and sex were found to significantly affect the diets of these subjects, while other factors did not.

摘要:
Food choices, food supple and shopping practices of 104 independent-living elderly with mean age of 68.3 years were investigated during winter and summer seasons. Questionnaires, checklists of personal data, and food selection practices were used as data collection instruments. When the frequency checklists were compared to the recommended serving per day of the Daily Food Guide, an adequate supply of foods was stored in the households of this population. No significant differences were noted for the percentages of meals eaten with companions, location of meals consumed, frequency of snacks and meals consumed per day, and meal choices during two seasons. However, significant differences were noted in terms of the reasons for snacking, the frequency of snacks eaten, and number of meals consumed away from home.
