摘要:
SUMMARYBy analyzing the monobasic cutin acids of smooth and russeted “Golden Delicious” apples with gas liquid chromatography, we found that these acids occur in about the same proportions in both kinds of apples. This is also the case for all the cutin acids, after reduction to the parent monobasic acids. From these results, we concluded that there are no great differences between smooth and russeted “Golden Delicious” apples with respect to the polymerized fatty acid material. There is evidence that these parent acids do not occur in the same proportion as the monobasic cutin acids with respect to the chain

摘要:
SUMMARYCytological studies of theRumex acetosellacomplex in the Netherlands have shown that in this country tetraploids and hexaploids occur. Such plants are referred by Löve toR. tenuifoliusandR. acetosella, respectively. Diploid angiocarpous specimens belonging toR. angiocarpushave not been encountered, in contradistinction to a report by Löve. However, apart from gymnocarpous hexaploids, also angiocarpous hexaploids have been found to occur in the Netherlands. The range of distribution of these angiocarpous hexaploids corresponds with the distribution indicated by Löve for angiocarpous diploids. The results of our studies render the occurrence of the diploidR. angiocarpusin the Netherlands most unlikely. Angiocarpy can not be considered a good diagnostic character to distinguishR. angiocarpusand, accordingly, the keys to the species ofRumexbelonging to the complex and the circumscription of these species by Löve and in several recent floral works are in need of revis

摘要:
SUMMARYSynchronously germinatingPetuniapollen in an aerated sucrose medium release free amino acids during the first minutes after contact with the aqueous medium. The release process between 1 minute and 6 hours follows an exponential equation. The content of free amino acids of the germinating pollen decreases sharply. Free amino acids set free from “dead” pollen reach their plateau after 40 minutes in the alcoholic extraction medium. Differences in the amino acid curves show that only a part of them is localized in the pollen wall, but the majority are peptide bound in the inner space of the microspore. Consideration of the data obtained by differential analysis of the amino acid curves suggests that amino acids and protein are synthesized in the early phase of pollen germinat

摘要:
SUMMARYABryopsis “plumosa”population from Roscoff appeared to have a heteromorphic life history. Zygotes from the anisogametes grew into filamentous germlings that produced spherical stephanokontic zoids. These stephanokontic zoids grew into newBryopsisplants.Comparable filamentous germlings produced by aBryopsis “plumosa”population from Zeeland (Netherlands) grew directly into newBryopsisplants.Crosses between female gametes from the Roscoff population and male gametes from the Zeeland population (and vice versa) produced a fertile offspring. The filamentous germlings, resulting from these crosses however, directly grew into new male or femaleBryopsi

摘要:
SUMMARYIn extracts of pea roots two types of indoleacetic acid degrading enzymes are present. The first type is not retained by polyvinylpyrrolidone, shows peroxidase activity and does not denaturate in 3 M urea. The second type adsorbs to polyvinylpyrrolidone, does not show peroxidase activity and denaturates in 3 M urea. It is also destroyed by deoxycholate. Presumably it is associated with polyphenols. Both types possibly aggregate with each other and with other proteins to form large complexes. Both depend for their action with indoleacetic acid on an added cofactor.

摘要:
SUMMARYThe ontogeny of the podetium and the apothecium inCladonia ecmocynaNyl. is investigated morphologically and anatomically. The podetia are formed by generative tissue. Sexual organs and apothecia are only formed at the top of grown podetia. The development is the same as inCladonia chlorophaea, described by Jahns1969.The phyllocladia are formed by growth of the algal layer of the podetium. In the process a piece of the cortex is torn free at the basal side of the primordium of the phyllocladium and bent upwards.Phyllocladia are also formed at the margin of old cups. The phyllocladia of old, rotten podetia can assume the function of the thallus horizontalis. New podetia emerge from them. The tissue of the apothecium is not fundamentally determinant. It was observed that on the disc of an apothecium a phyllocladium had been formed by the subhymenial tissue. On this phyllocladium a pycnidium was found.

摘要:
SUMMARYIn this fourth and last paper on the biosystematics of the Dutch halophilous species ofSpergularia, some relevant details concerning their reproduction and dissemination are discussed, the results of a karyogenetic investigation are reported, and, finally, the taxonomic interpretation of the acquired data is given.S. mediaandS. marinadiffer in their mode of reproduction; the latter normally reproduces autogamously in nature and the former both allogamously and autogamously. Dispersal of the seeds is by polychory.S. mediaandS. marinahave 2n = 18 and 2n = 36 chromosomes respectively. Hybridisation apparently does not occur. The taxonomic confusion is shown to be chiefly caused by an insufficient insight into the degree of variation of certain characters, especially in the development of the seed wing, in both species.
