摘要:
SUMMARYThe decrease in the rate of P‐absorption developing during P‐accumulation by yeast is accompanied by a parallel decrease in glycolysis. Addition of magnesium ions diminished these effects partly suggesting that one of the causes of the decrease in the rate of phosphate absorption is an increasing lack of free magnesium ions in the cell. The possibility that the cellular orthophosphate concentration affected also the rate of P‐entry was considered

摘要:
SUMMARYAfter a pretreatment in water, aperturate pollen grains can be led to formation of “Instant Pollen Tubes” (IPoT) by treatment with strong inorganic acids, such as sulfuric acid. This IPoT formation is a pseudogermination dependent on the living state of pollen and a distinct period of swelling and enzyme activation. Conditions of pretreatment and acid treatment are investigated. IPoT formation seems to be a suitable object for further investigation of the molecular structure of the intine and the dependence of pollen tube formation on initiation of enzyme activat

摘要:
SUMMARYSolutions of14C‐labelled amino acids were allowed to percolate through the xylem vessels of tomato stem parts. The amounts absorbed by the stem tissues were determined by analyses of the collected fluid. The protein amino‐acids glycine and L‐α‐alanine were strongly retained by the stem tissues and partly metabolized. Hardly or no absorption, however, was found for either the protein amino‐acids L‐proline and L‐glutamic acid, or for the “unnatural” amino‐acids D‐α‐alanine, D‐glutamic acid and α‐aminoisobutyric acid.It is concluded that during xylem translocation of amino‐acids a selective uptake may occur by binding sites from which at least some have a stereo‐spe

摘要:
SUMMARYDiscs of parenchymous tissue of storage organs, which are used as a test material for qualitative and quantitative auxin determinations, do not respond to gibberellic acid, but are sensitive to cytokinins. This sensitivity limits their suitability for auxin assays.

摘要:
SUMMARYAt progressively later moments after the beginning of the imbibition a single red irradiation(R) has been given to the positive photoblastic seeds ofChenopodium album. It could be demonstrated that not only the final germination percentage, but also the period between R and the visible germination, are dependent on the irradiation moment.
