摘要:
Proximal point algorithms are applicable to a variety of settings in optimization. See Rockafellar, R.T. (1976), and Spingarn, J.E. (1981) for examples. We consider a simple idealized proximal point algorithm using gradient minimization on C2convex functions. This is compared to the direct use of the same gradient method with an appropriate mollifier. The comparison is made by determining estimates of the costrequired to reduce the function to a given precision E. Our object is to assess the potential efficiency of these algorithms even if we do not know how to realize this potential.

摘要:
In this paper a system of partial differential equations is considered that constitutes a one-dimensional model for the dynamics of martensitic phase transitions in Shape Memory alloys. The stability behaviour of the system under distributed heat sources and loads and heat sources at the boundary is investigated. An optimal control problem is formulated which uses loads and heat sources as control variables in order to induce both stress- and temperature-induced phase transitions. The existence of optimal controls is proved.

The linear equation (E) u(t) = Au(t) + Lutwith an initial condition u0= y, in a Banach space X is considered: here A is a generator of an analytic semigroup in X, and L is a continuous linear operator from a phase space Y of functions on R−with values in D(−A)∞, 0<∞<1. The existence of the resolvent operator for (E), as well as the variation of parameters formula for a mild, strong and strict solution of the nonhomogeneous equation, are obtained. The method is based on the inverse Laplace transform and it also yields sharp stability results.

A standard method for solution of a syrmnetric integral equation in an intervalwith a kernel K(x,t) ε C(IxI) is to solve the eigenproblemwith wjn>0 and xjnεI, j=l,...,n. For kernels with discontinuous derivatives on the diagonal x=t we use a variant of Gregory's quadrature fonnula to improve the error estimate of (1) from 0 (n-2) at most to 0(n-4).

We study a model of variational inequality of degenerate elliptic-parabolic type. We prove an existence and uniqueness theorem, apply the finite element method and verify the convergence of the approximate solutions.Then we consider a problem with an internal obstacle related to the pseudoparabolic operator governing the heat propagation in non-simple elastic materials([12]),in this case we obtain a more regular solution and an error estimate.At the end of this paper we studyan application to the theory of seepage of homogeneous liquid in fissured rocks ([13]).

This paper presents a first attempt to perform the singular value decomposition of an infinite block-Hankel matrix. It is shown that singular value decomposition (SVD) of an infinite block-Hankel matrix can be reduced to the SVD of a matrix with finite dimension. The formulation is solely in terms of the coefficients of the transfer function matrix (TFM).The most of importance is that this method leads to a new formulation of L∞-optimization problems, Hankel-norm model reduction problems and a new algorithm for minimal balanced realization of multivariable systems
