The use of a common Q-Féjèr's mapping instead of the projection operator in iterative methods for solving variational inequalities based on the iterative regularization principle that makes easier their application to mathematical programming problems is substantiated. The possibilities of using such iterative methods for concrete classes of problems (inparticular, of linear programming) are indicated.

We exhibit a simple topology on the closed convex subsets C of a normed linear space such that, under the usual ways of combining convex sets, C becomes a topological algebra. The topolog is the weakest one on C for which distance and support functionals are both continuous, as functions of the set argument. This topology is also the weakest topology for whichandis a continuous function on. e×e In a reflexive space, convergence of asequence in C with respect to this topology is equivalent to pointwise plus Mosco convergence of the corresponding sequence of support functionals

Necessary Lagrangian conditions are obtained for a weak minimum of a nonsmooth constrained multiobjective programming problem, assuming Lipschitzfunctions and general cone constraints. This generalizes a result of F. Clarke. A vector dual problem is deduced.

We consider a mixed boundary-value problem for the homogeneous Laplace equation in a bounded domain which boundary splits up into two disjoint smooth components. On the one boundary component we pose a homogeneous Robin condition and an inhomogeneous Neumann condition on the other. We give a weak formulation, interpret this problem as a generalized spectral (eigenvalue) problem in the sense of F.Stummel (cf.[12]) and investigate existence, uniqueness and regularity of weak solutions. This problem is a cut-off version of a basic problem in water-wave theory (cf.Ramm [8], pp.394-395, Simon/Ursell [10] Stoker [11])

The generalized Faber expansion, as compared with the ordinary one, has a less developed theory, and only recently it has been shown that it comprises the ultraspherical expansions a special case [14]. In this paper, a representation for the generalized Faber operator is established, s ufficient conditions for its boundedness are studied and a result of Kövari and Pommerenke on uniform convergence of Faber series is extended to the case of generalized Faber series, improving a criterion of Suetin.

The n-th operator Mn, of Baskakov-Dumnepr results from the n-th classical Baskakov operator with weights pnk(depending on a parameter)if the discrete values f(k/n) are replaced by. Forand n>c(r+6) we prove the global direct result [UM0001], where C is a constant independent of nandis the second order Ditzian-Totik modulus of smoothness. For c = 0 (Szász-Mirakjan-Dumneyer operators) (1) also holds true for p = ∞. In a final section local direct results are proved on the simultaneous approximation of functions with polynomial growth.
