摘要:
A wide class of diffusion reaction equations with activator‐inhibitor reaction dynamics are studied analytically. It is shown that when the inhibitor diffuses much faster than the activator, patterns with large amplitude nonuniformities may exist. It is further shown that with a slightly nonuniform source of activator, the patterns which emerge from the time dependent process have a directional preference. The results given coincide with the numerical results of Gierer and Meinhardt [6

摘要:
The general solution for simple harmonic generation is obtained by inverse scattering techniques. The time evolution of the scattering data is found to be much more complicated than in all other cases which are solvable by inverse scattering. It is also pointed out that the instability of the real solutions of simple harmonic generation is related to the singular nature of the scattering data about ζ = 0

摘要:
The evolution of inviscid forced Rossby waves on a parallel flow in the presence of a critical layer is discussed. It is shown that the transient critical layer becomes nonlinear after sufficient time has elapsed and that the “− π” logarithmic phase shift is modified accordingly. All harmonics are found to be important in the nonlinear range, even outside the critical

摘要:
Generating functions of the type occur throughout enumerative combinatorics. We give a general setting for obtaining such generating functions in which the numbersM (n)have an explicit combinatorial meaning. Applications are given to the computation of Möbius functions and related invariants of certain posets
