摘要:
A monthly water balance model is being successfully applied to the Grote Nete test basin (553 km2) in the North of Belgium. This low region has a complex geological structure, its boundaries are more or less unknown and deep infiltration into a deep aquifer is most likely to occur. Moreover, the area is crossed by several navigation canals which import and export an unknown volume of water.

摘要:
The application of dilution gauging techniques to rivers and streams and other variable flows incurs a systematic error caused by the change in discharge with time. The discharge calculated from dilution gauging results may be considered as an estimate of the stream discharge at the injection section or the sampling section, and the magnitude and sense of the error vary according to this choice.

摘要:
The effect that evapotranspiration has on recession curves during low flow periods is explored. Recession constants are obtained from flow data and plotted against the average daily pan evaporation occurring during the recession. The results for the three study basins are similar, showing a decrease in recession constant with an increase in average daily pan evaporation. For low values of average daily pan evaporation, the recession constant approaches a constant value.

In the framework of an experiment devoted to the study of runoff generation on six arid talus mantled slopes, runoff samples loaded with fine sediment were taken at short intervals. These samples allowed an analysis to be made of the relationships existing between sediment concentration and sediment discharge to the runoff discharge of such slopes. Sediment concentrations varied from 0.5 to 59 g/1., and sediment yields from 0.9 to 24.2 g/m2. Whereas a positive linear relationship was obtained between runoff discharge and sediment discharge, no clear relationship was obtained between runoff discharge and sediment concentration. The highest concentrations were recorded in the initial runoff, followed by a rapid decrease in concentration during the rising flow stage. A second peak of sediment concentration appeared at the fall stage of the flow. These results are tentatively explained by the varying role of splash and flow velocity on sediment detachment and transport processes during the flow event.

It is a known fact that some methods used in the calculation of aquifer coefficients for unconsolidated formations require the use of semilogarithmic and logarithmic papers and others need previously prepared tables. In this study some linear methods are considered for the determination of aquifer characteristics because of the greater possibilities these give for accurate drawing of the drawdown/time graph.

摘要:
A study of the water balance of the upper River Ray basin reveals that calculated soil moisture storage exceeds measured storage in winter and falls well below it in summer. The systematic seasonal error is of the order ±50 mm. Several reasons have been proposed which may account for some local water balance anomalies. However, the reported discrepancies are characteristic of a much broader area, and are attributed by Edwards and Rodda (1970) partly to the omission of a soil heat storage term (G) from the Penman equation. The present analysis tests this hypothesis.
