摘要:
The synthesis and mesogenic behaviour of Copper (II) complexes derived from polar Schiff bases and of their corresponding ligands are reported. The ligands exhibited smectic C, smectic A and nematic phases, whereas the complexes only showed smectic A and nematic phases: Optical investigations carried out with one of the complexes showed that the nematic phase was uniaxial.

摘要:
We discuss a method to investigate electrooptical effects in liquid-crystalline devices. Taking the one-Polaroid reflective mode as an example it is shown that with this approach one can find all possible variants of the transitions with the light modulation in it. The electrooptical parameters of this mode are compared with those for the ordinary two-polaroid STN effect and suggestions for practical applications are outlined.

It has been shown experimentally that the efficiency of the diffuse component light scattering by liquid crystal elements based on nematics with different structures, possessing the effect of dynamic light scattering, grows with the increase of optic and dielectriic anisotropy of the molecules of the liquid crystal material.

摘要:
The films aligned by drawing thin lyotropic liquid crystal layers of benzopurpurin-4B were investigated by X-ray and electron diffraction methods. The analysis of diffraction data was carried out by straigh-forward (Patterson synthesis) and model procedures. The film structure is crystalline on the microlevel. Molecules ar packed in monoclinic lattice (a=27A, b=7. 2Å, c=59.5Å, β =141°) corresponding to space group C2/c. This model explains the type geometry of molecular aggregates in the lyotropic liquid crystal phase of benzopurpurin-4B.

摘要:
It has been found that the coherent domain oscillations which perform stochastic auto-oscillations appear in nematic liquid crystals above the threshold of electrohydrodynamic instability in de-electric field. In this case the oscillating domain block generates the nonlinear orientational waves. The voltage dependences of the wave length, velocity of propagation and period of wave process have been measured.

摘要:
The nonlinear effects of interaction between shear acoustic wave and the director field in nematic liquid crystal have been investigated. The nonstationary vortex lattice formation has been found. The individual vortex centers are sources of orientational waves. The interference, diffraction by obstacle and reflection at interfational boundary were studied. It has been shown that the wave process has the properties of autooscillations.

摘要:
Langmuir-Blodgett films of mixed behenic and stearic acid salts of cadmium were deposited and investigated by small-angle X-ray scattering. The ratio of compounds was varied from 1:4 to 4:1. It was found that for 1:1 ratio the lattice spacing was equal to 54.0 Å, which corresponds to double chain length of arachidic acid or to a sum of one chain length of stearic and behenic acid salts. In this case a single completely mixed phase was obtained. For the other ratio X-ray patterns contained two systems of reflections, each of them corresponding to one of the pure fatty acid salts (49.0 Å and 58.5 Å respectively), implying the coexistence of two phases.
