摘要:
A flexoelectric polarization proportional to the splay deformation is expected in phases with local smectic order, because the alternation of highly polarizable molecular cores with paraffinic tails of lower polarizability produces a spatial modulation of electric fields applied normal to the layers, and the locally inhomogeneous field pushes the permanent quadrupole moment of the core along the field direction, coupling with the splay deformations.

摘要:
A theoretical treatment of the light deflection of the extraordinary light beam in a nematic liquid crystal in the neighborhood of the Fréedericksz transition is presented. The analysis explains recent experimental observations of director fluctuations near the electrically driven splay Fréedericksz transition. As an application of this method, we propose the measurement of material parameters of a nematic liquid crystal via a spatio-temporal analysis of the measured light intensity.

摘要:
A room temperature ferroelectric liquid crystal has been studied by means of dielectric measurements. The results of the studies of the complex electric permittivities for aligned samples of different thicknesses and for the different electric measuring fields are presented. We discuss how dielectric properties depend on boundary conditions, thicknesses of the samples and the magnitude measuring electric fields. The obtained experimental results and the discussion make it possible to determine the spontaneous polarization from dielectric measurements.

摘要:
The cholesteric liquid crystal (CLC) pitch and director orientation are obtained as the functions of the anchoring energy W of a director and its pretilt angles Δϑ1, Δϑ2on the cell orienting surfaces. If the anchoring energy is strong enough, the monotonic change of the CLC twisting ability due, for example, to the light-induced molecular conformational transformatins causes jumps of the CLC pitch and mean values of dielectric susceptibility tensor ⟨ϵ1J⟩. Values of Jumps of ⟨ϵ1J⟩ components are determined by anchoring energy W and pretilt angles Δϑ1, Δϑ2that may be used for experimental estimations of W, Δϑ1, Δϑ2.
