摘要:
On the basis of the highly reproducible scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) images, the anchoring structures of a homologous series of liquid crystals,n-alkylcyanobiphenyls (mCBs) are clearly divided into two categories; a single-row type and a double-row type. We have proposed that the single-row is the anchoring structure of a nematic phase, while the double-row is the one of a smectic phase. Furthermore, a new phase transition only available at the boundary has been confirmed for the first time in the binary mixtures. The correlation between those anchoring structures and the bulk phase diagrams is discussed from the viewpoint of anchoring phase formation at a molecular level.

摘要:
Self-assembled fullerene-diaminoaodecane multilayer films were prepared on planar silicon wafer and quartz plate and on nonplanar fumed silica surfaces, and the growth of each layer and its uniformity was charackrized by using FTIR, UV, contact angle measurement and ellipsometric measurement. It is suggested that fullerene-diaminododecane layers are not completely packed on oxide surfaces, but the growrh of each layer was confirmed.

摘要:
The initial stage of the epitaxial growth of vanadyl-phthalocyanine (VOPc) films on alkali halides (AH) and MoS2was studied by atomic force microscopy. Each grain grew epitaxially on the surface with its crystal axis parallel to that expected from the molecular arrangements determined by reflection high energy electron diffraction. The growth mode of the VOPc films on AH was the Volmer- Weber type. Although the height of the grains increased with the deposition time, the grains hardly enlarged in the lateral direction. The shape of grains was affected even by steps with atomic height on AH. On the other hand, the nuclei grew rapidly in the lateral direction on MoS2. The diffusion length of VOPc on MoS2was estimated to be six times as long as that on KBr at room temperature. Large domains with flat surfaces were observed on a MoS2surface when the substrate temperature was kept at 100°C during film growth.

Functional organic dye, Tris(8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum complex (Alq3) was deposited onto the surfaces of KBr, ITO and quartz plate. The fundamental parameters in film growth such as nucleation and surface migration of molecules were numerically analyzed to confirm the formation mechanism of thin crystals.

摘要:
The monolayer stability of polyamic acid salts (PAAS) increases as the chain length of salts increases and the hysteresis of the π-A isotherms is found when compressed and expanded. The transferabilities of the monolayers were sharply influenced by the stability at the interface, but not affected by the dipping conditions. In a well-balanced condition, the Langmuir film is transferred as a Y-type on various substrates. The thickness of PAAS was found to be 16.7 Å. After imidization, it was reduced to 5.6 Å per layer, but some ordered structures sustained.

摘要:
TTF–TCNQ co-evaporated films were fabricated on variously surface–modified substrates and the structural investigation was carried out by scanning electron microscope and X-ray diffraction measurements. It was, indicated that the molecular orientation was controllable on a properly modified substrate by chosing an evaporation condition. Furthermore, the selective growth of the TTF–TCNQ film was achieved on the surface-modified substrate using a standard photolithographic technique.

Silica films doped with malachite green (MG) or uranine (UR) were deposited on the surface of a glass slide at 35°C from saturated hydrofluorosilicic acid solution containing these dyes. The steady fluorescence of MG was observed in silica films, which was absent in aqueous solutions. The fluorescence lifetime of MG in silica films was about 60 times longer than that in aqueous solutions. No absorption changes of MG-doped silica films by the LPD method were observed after storing 24 h in 25% ammonia solution, while those prepared by the sol-gel method showed changes immediately after immersion. The absorption and fluorescence spectra varied slowly by the heat treatment and by the immersion in hydrochloric solutions, indcating the deprotonation and protonation of MG. The delayed fluorescence of UR was observed in silica films. All these results indcated organic dyes were fixed rigidly in silica films prepared by the present LPD method.

摘要:
Orientation-controlled Pc (TiOPc, VOPc and VOPcFx) films were prepared by vapor deposition on a KBr (001) surface. Pc molecules were oriented parallel to the substrate surface. The photoelectrochemical properties of a randomly-oriented and an oriented films were investigated in cells of the configuration ITO / Pc / I3−, I−/Pt. Remarkable enhancement is obtained especially of ISC(short circuit current) and η′ (apparent energy conversion efficiency) by epitaxial orientation.

TTF films deposited on three kinds of alkali halides were studied by atomic force microscopy(AFM). In ths study it was found that TTF displays epitaxial growth below room temperature. On the other hand, it has been reported that TTF does not grow at room temperature by vacuum deposition.

摘要:
A coplanar electrode structure is introduced to measure the linear electro-optic (EO) effect of poled polymer thin films. The coplanar structure has advantages over the parallel plate structure in removing artifacts such as piezoelectric effect and electrostrictions. Optical geometry of coplanar electrode thin film setup is analyzed to find a relationship between the measured modulated intensity and microscopic molecular parameters.
