摘要:
Excitons in monolayer dye aggregates have been studied using linear optical spectroscopy. Through the analysis of the spectra aided by a simple numerical simulation, we found that the system is characterized by rather large static disorder.

摘要:
Self-assembled (SA) and Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) monolayers of nonadecanoic acid on the surface of silver have been investigated by reflection-absorption Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The molecule was chemisorbed on silver very favorably as nonadecanoate after losing the carboxylic proton. Although both the LB and SA monolayers consisted of Fully extended trans zigzag molecular chains assembled in a crystalline state, the carbon chains of SA monolayers seemed to assume a more perpendicular stance with respect to the silver surface than those of LB monolayers.

摘要:
The angle-resolved ultraviolet photoelectron spectra of ultrathin films of copper phthalocyanine (CuPc) on an MoS2substrate were measured using synchrotron radiation. The azimuthal angle dependence of the photoelectron intensity was analyzed using independent-atomic-center approximation combined with molecular orbital calculation. The results indicate that CuPc molecules lie flat on the substrate and that the film grows epitaxially with respect to the three equivalent directions of the MoS2surface.

摘要:
Using Penning ionization electron spectroscopy, which provides information on the local distribution of the individual orbitals exposed outside the outermost surface layer, ultra-thin films (1 to several monolayers) of chloroaluminium phthalocyanine were characterized during layer-by-layer vacuum deposition onto an MoS2substrate and the change in the molecular orientation was sensitively detected.

摘要:
Using 9–layer polyimide Langmuir-Blodgett films as a tunneling barrier, Current Voltage (I-V) characteristic and inelastic electron tunneling (IET) spectra of the junctions in corporating 1-layer organic monolayer were investigated. The I-V characteristics exhibited a typical I-V characteristic of ideal tunnel junctions with a noble metal/tunnel barrier/superconductor. Several peaks originating in the excitation of the vibrational modes of constituent molecules of the 1-layer monolayers were clearly observed in the IET spectra. Further we examined the electric phenomena occurring in heterostructured films by using IETS and thermally stimulated displacement-current-measurements.

摘要:
Absorption spectra of adsorption Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films were measured during and after the deposition of malachite green adsorbed merocyanine LB films on an optical fiber. The experimental results show that the in-situ optical monitoring using optical fibers is one of the powerful method to investigate the optical properties and the molecular interactions in the adsorption LB films.

摘要:
Ion-pair charge-transfer complexes of 4-nitrostyrylpyridinium with tetraphenylborate as its counter ion gave fairly stable styrylpyridinyl radicals in 1,2-dimethoxyethane at room temperature due to photoinduced electron transfer reactions between ion pairs. In addition to the remarkable colour changes due to a characteristic absorption of styrylpyridinyl radicals in the visible region, a charge resonance (CR) band was also observed in the near infrared region. The CR band indicated specific interaction of photogenerated neutral radicals with their parent styrylpyridinium cations. Prolonged irradiation and/or storage in the dark after irradiation caused further colour changes depending on the initial concentrations and irradiation times. These results indicated that nitrostyrylpyridinyl radicals had stronger tendency of association in the dark.

摘要:
We have demonstrated a field-induced, charge-transfer reaction driven by the electric field at the STM tip when the field generated by the STM exceeds the switching threshold of CuTCNQ charge transfer complex. We discuss the mechanism of this nanoscopic phenomenon in comparison with macroscopic observations.

摘要:
Liquid crystalline behavior of many series of novel dimesogenic compounds having two identical or two different mesogenic units attached to both ends of a central flexible spacer is reviewed in this article. When central spacers are polymethylene units, these compounds reveal a strong odd-even effect not only in melting point (Tm) and isotropization temperature (Ti), but also in entropy (δi)of isotropization. Variety of mesophases that are formed by dimesogenic compounds having two identical mesogenic units is much less than that shown by the corresponding monomesogenic compounds. The nematic and smectic group efficiency of terminal substituents in dimesogenic liquid crystals is similar as in monomesogenic compounds. It is also learned that mesomorphic behavior of dimesogenic compounds carrying two different mesogenic units is not a simple combination of those of each mesogenic elements. Some of such dimesogenic compounds reveal unexpected, extraordinary thermal transition sequences which have never been observed to occur in the common monomesogenic compounds, and the incommensurate SAand twisted grain boundary (TGB) phases are formed.

摘要:
The synthesis, purification and properties of the carbon nanotubes are described. The synthesized and purified nanotubes were analyzed by XPS (ESCA) and found to be chemically modified in the oxidation process. The possibilities of filling nanotubes with metals are discussed based on the high pressure experiment with mercury.
