摘要:
Barbituric acid derivatives are synthesized as the electro-optic chromophores for photorefractive application. When doped with new chromophores the photorefractive composites which consist of polysiloxane with pendant carbazole as photoconducting host show very large gain coefficient (Γ = 219cm−1at 100V/μm).

摘要:
Quasi two-dimensional (2D) photonic band structures have been investigated on ordered polystyrene particle layers by means of polarized transmission spectra for oblique incidence of light. The results are discussed in terms of quasi-2D photonic band effect.

摘要:
Block copolymers, 9-ethylcarbazolyl methacrylate (CzMA) with 3-nitro-9-ethylcarbazolyl methacrylate (NCzMA), and styrene with optically functionalized isocyanates containing disperse red 1 (DR1NCO) and (s)-(-)-2-methylbutanol (MBI), were prepared by anionic polymerization for photo-electronic materials. The living condition of CzMA was found at -78°C for 3 h with diethyl zinc and block copolymers of CzMA with NCzMA were synthesized successfully. The polymers show potential to be used as energy transfer materials in UV and PL spectra. Block copolymers of styrene with optically functionalized isocyanates were also synthesized with high yield and the polymers showed the large optical activity at 476 nm.

摘要:
We introduce a simple fabrication technique of nonlinear polymeric optical waveguide patterns based on the simultaneous process of emboss heating and poling. The polyimide film on the nickel plate was used as master grating. The condition of the fabricated pattern depends on removal temperature and the stability of the master grating is investigated. The submicron surface relief grating with χ(2)is realized in the NLO polymer film.

摘要:
Relief optical microlenses were prepared by using a self-developing method with photopolymers. The formation of the microlenses depended on the mass-transfer of photopolymer by diffusion and the difference of surface-free energy induced light source. The shape and height of lenticular lenses changed with the intensity of light, the exposed time and the temperature during the photopolymerization.

摘要:
Polymer thin films with nonlinear optical groups were prepared by spin-coating poly-DR1-(anthranilic acid) on glass substrates. These films were then heated to different temperatures and cooled down to obtain samples with various degrees of cross-linking. The visible absorption decreased for samples annealed at high temperatures. Strong second-harmonic signal generated from the polymer film indicated the nonlinear side chains of the polymer were aligned macroscopically through the heat treatment without external field.

摘要:
Polyethers (ABPEn,n=6 and 12) were synthesized by the polycondensation reaction of 2,2′-dihydroxyazobenzene and α-,ω-dichloro alkane in the presence of a phase transfer catalyst. ABPE6 and ABPE12 had the average molecular weight (Mw) of 49,000 and 67,000, and the glass transition temperature (Tg) of 112°C and 110°C, respectively. UV absorption spectrum of ABPE6 showed two absorption peaks with maxima at 370 nm and at 470 nm. Fluorescence emission spectrum of ABPE6 showed a peak with maximum at 669 nm.

摘要:
Orientational photorefractive gratings in nematic liquid crystals (NLCs) on a poly(N-vinyl-carbazole) film dispersed with 5,10,15,20-tetra-phenylporphyrinatozinc across poly(vinyl alcohol) film were observed. The maximum diffraction efficiency of 0.3–0.5% was measured.

摘要:
Poly(malonic ester) with two symmetrical azobenzene groups (PDR1) was synthesized, and azo dye-doped polymer (ADP) thin films were prepared using PDR1 and matrix polymers such as PMMA, PC, and PVK. All the ADP thin films were found to be suitable as reversible media for data storage and retrieval. The mechanism of the optical recording was a trans-cis isomerization of the azobenzene units by the irradiation of linearly polarized Ar laser and thermal process.

摘要:
A new optical switching device based on photochromic dye isomerization in a planar type active waveguide was proposed. The polymeric thin-film composed of a well designed spirooxazine derivative shows new light absorption band in the visible range (γmax= 587 nm) due to very fast photochromism under UV irradiation. Since this polymeric thin-film can also act as an intrinsic waveguide, the output intensity of input and guided visible light (γ = 633 nm, He-Ne Laser) through planar thin-film was decreased effectively during UV irradiation.
