摘要:
A broad equivalent weight petroleum sulfonate (TRS 10-410), and a narrow equivalent weight sulfonate (sodium pentadecyl benzene sulfonate), at a concentration range of 0.001 to 0.6 wt. pet. were studied with regard to partitioning, interfacial tensions, and solubilizing properties with a number of linear alkanes. For all these properties studied, there exists a concentration where they underwent sudden changes in slope. Calculation based on solubilizing data indicated formation of swollen micelles. This observation is discussed in term of critical micelle concentration, equipartitioning and formation of swollen micelles.

The rate of dissolution of water and dodecane in micro-emulsions (or micellar solutions) made of water/SDS + l-pentanol/dodecane has been measured using a fast mixing equipment. The dissolution rates were found to be much larger than the reciprocal of the time required to achieve an intimate mixing between the microemulsion and water (or dodecane) about 5 × 102s−1except in the water-rich region of the pseudo-ternary phase diagram where they range from below 0.1s−1to above 5 × 102s−1The inter-facial tension between oil and microemulsion appears to play only a minor role in determining the changes of dissolution rate. The results have been accounted for in terms of a dissolution process based on diffusion-controlled collisions between oil (or water) droplets and microemulsion droplets. The differences between the rates of dissolution in the water-rich region and the oil-rich region are attributed to electrostatic repulsions occurring only in the water-rich region, and which appear to play a predominant role in determining the dissolution rates of additives into oil/water microemulsions.

摘要:
In connection with studies of technical functionality of lipids in cereals, the aqueous systems of lipids from rye and tri-ticale flour are described and compared to different wheat culti-vars. Rye lipids give a lamellar liquid-crystalline phase with very small ordered regions, and this phase is continuously changed into an L2-phase with increasing water content. Triticale lipids exhibit phase equilibria in between lipids of wheat and of rye. Evidence is given for a significant role of the lamellar liquid--crystalline phase with regard to technical functionality when the cereal flour is worked in water to give a dough.

The design and construction of an improved optical counter and cell were made for the monitoring of particulates in situations involving higher concentration such as those in chemical vapor phase deposition (CVD) reactor, in polluted urban environments and in earlier stages of fires. The modification of Jaenicke' s equation was also made for the correction of coincidence loss. Particularly, the quick estimation of in-situ polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) concentration in urban air was achieved by monitoring particulates on the basis of the established linear relations between PAH concentration and the total number of smaller particulates in unit volume instead of the total volume of particulates.
