摘要:
Bromination, chlorination and hydroxylation were carried out on the hydrophobic chain of several commercially available nonionic surfactants in order to modify their hydrophobic characteristics without changing their hydrqphilic iroities- Ethoxy-lated oleyl alcohols, as well as ethoxylated oleic acid, and polyglycerol esters were examined and it was found that paraf-finic oil in water emulsions can be stabilized using these new surfactants. The derivatization of the nonionic surfactants increased their overall hydrophilicity and as a result higher HLB value was obtained for any of the surfactants. It should be noted that inspite the fact that hydrqphilic groups were introduced into the hydrocarbonic chain, stable emulsions were prepared and in some cases even better stabilities were measured.

摘要:
Food Grade Rutile TiO2was dispersed in coconut oil with the help of hydrophobic emulsifiers such as sorbitan esters and lecithin. The dispersed mixture was melted and blended with hydrophilic emulsifiers such as ethoxylated sorbitan esters and the preheated (60°C) blend was further sprayed by atomizer into cold water (20°C). The oil in water emulsions contained encapsulated TiO2in the internal phase. The technique is simple and allows preparation of stable emulsions with average droplets size of 1-10 microns.

摘要:
The interaction study of phosphatidylcholine multilamellar liposomes with lipid monolayer of phosphatidylcholine and cholesterol, is used as biophysical model in order to understand the mechanisms involved in liposcme-membrane cell interaction. Proposed theoretical treatment reveal a first order kinetic model for the experiences made at low surface pressure and the observed slight disagreement with general equation at higher initial surface pressure is also discussed and suggest posterior studies reproducing physiological conditions.

摘要:
Miorocrystalline cellulose stabilized emulsions (o/w) were evaluated by means of brightfield and polarized light microscopy, freeze-etch electron microscopy, droplet size analyses and rheologic measurements. These studies indicated that miorocrystalline cellulose (Avicel RC591 ) forms a network around emulsified oil droplets. This structure provides a mechanical barrier at the o/w interface which stabilizes the emulsion without the necessity for decreasing interfacial tension, as in conventional surfactant-stabilized emulsions. Rheologic studies indicated that emulsions containing Avicel RC591 had a considerable degree of thlxotropy which contributed to their stability. When Tween 80 was incorporated in this system, oil droplets coalesced indicating that the stability of the emulsion was affected adversely.

摘要:
Procedures for measurement of interfacial tension as a function of pressure has been developed. The interfacial tension is deduced from the damping of thermally excited capillary waves, measured by interfacial laserlight scattering. The sample is contained in an optical high pressure cell and measurements can be performed at a maximum of 680 bar. We have performed measurements on microemulsion multiphase systems with low interfacial tension. We find that the interfacial tension on these systems can have a strong dependence on pressure.

摘要:
An automated set-up is described which permits the fast determination of the composition limits of isotropic microemulsion phases of ternary (water/oil/surfactant) systems. It is especially well suited for the investigation of systems including nonionic surfactants, which are very sensitive to temperature changes.

摘要:
011-in-glycerol/water emulsions at various ratios of water to glycerol in the external phase were prepared with Tween 80 and either light mineral oil or soybean oil. A minimum in the droplet size was observed at about 15% w/w water in the external phase of the emulsions. At the same water concentration, a clouding of the surfactant occurs at room temperature and the surface and interfacial tensions are minimal. It appears, therefore, that the minimum droplet size of the emulsions is related to the clouding phenomenon, as a result of changes in the properties of the solvent and the surfactant.
