摘要:
The adsorption of cassava starch on quartz, kaolinite and goethite is presented as a function of starch concentration and pH. Cassava starch adsorbs on these three minerals in the order: kaolinite > goethite > quartz. Zeta potential measurements have been made for these minerals in the absence and presence of cassava starch. These measurements indicate that cassava starch adsorbs by hydrogen bonding to the surface of each mineral.

摘要:
A study of the flocculation of pure goethite, quartz and kaolinite with cassava starch in the presence of Na2Si03 and KF has been undertaken. The results show that goethite is fully dispersed in a goethite-quartz mixture under these conditions and that optimum flocculation of goethite occurs at pH 7.5 with 50 ppm cassava starch concentration. Higher recovery of goethite at lower potassium fluoride concentration (20 ppm) was observed. The grade of the concentrate, however, was observed to be higher at higher KF concentrations with a corresponding decrease in recovery. Selective flocculation of goethite is probably due to stabilization of quartz in the presence of Na2Si03caused by the adsorption of SiO(OH)3on the particle surface, making subsequent adsorption of flocculant on the goethite surface possible. Potassium fluoride (KF) prevents quartz and kaolinite activation, thus promoting selective flocculation of iron-bearing particles.

摘要:
A study of the selective flocculation of Agbaja iron ore with starch and nonionic polyacrylamide flocculants has been conducted to determine the effect of flocculant type. The results indicate that corn starch and cassava starch are effective flocculants for Agbaja iron ore. Both corn and cassava starches were found to be better flocculants than Superfloc 16, while the poorest results were obtained with commercial starch. Improved flocculation was obtained with additions of sodium humate as dispersant in comparison to sodium silicate additions. Pulp pH affects the zeta potential, polymer chain configuration and, hence, the selective flocculation of Agbaja iron ore. The overall results indicate that recovery and separation of this very fine grained iron oxide by selective flocculation is feasible.

摘要:
This is the first study to report on the effects of the individual components and blends of an emulsion breaker package on dynamic film and interfacial tensions, film elasticity and diffusivity. These parameters were then correlated with the demulsifier performance. The measurements were made on systems of known crude oil, water and emulsion breaker chemistry. Results indicate that good demulsifier components must create low interfacial and film elasticity, high film diffusivity, high interfacial activity, and low dynamic film tension.

摘要:
The solubilization and spectrum characteristics of a dye mixture, Morefast Red 101, in the lamellar liquid crystal (LLC( of the system Igepal CO-610 and H2O were studied by measurements of phase behavior, low angle X-ray diffraction, UV and visible spectrum. Pure dye molecules, NAHPA, were located in the hydrocarbon chain part of the LLC bilayer of the solvents for the formulated dye. Of the solvents, n-propanol was evenly distributed between all parts of the liquid crystal while the bis(2-ethylhexyl)amine was localized to the space between the mirroring terminal methyl groups of the layered structure. In this manner the influence of the different components was compensated and the net result of the added dye was no effect on the interlayer spacing of the lamellar liquid crystal. The UV spectrum of the dye showed an interesting feature. After addition of water to the solution of dye in the relatively nonpolar surfactant the change in the dye spectrum showed a less polar environment of the dye in spite of the increased polarity. The explanation is found in the ordered structure of the lamellar liquid crystal; addition of water caused a transfer of the dye from the polar part of the surfactant tot he non-polar hydrocarbon chains.

摘要:
The effect of particle concentration on physical properties of aqueous and non-aqueous (methanol) TiO2suspensions was studied with and without polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP). The relative viscosity measured as a function of particle volume fraction (Φ) agrees well with the prediction of the Eiler's equation and the Maron-Pierce's equation. The maximum packing fraction (Φm) determined from the equations agree well with the maximum packing fraction determined from sedimentation experiment. The maximum packing fraction of sterically stabilized methanol based suspension by PVP adsorption is about equal to the closest packing fraction of spheres. Dynamic muduli (G' G“) of flocculated suspensions increases much more rapidly with Φ than that of the sterically stabilized suspensions and the storage modulus, G' increases more rapidly than the loss modulus, G“, indicating that the suspension becomes more elastic as ft increases.
