Polymer materials have rapidly found wide application in engineering as construction materials, chiefly owing to those of properties that make them superior to metals, i.e., their resistance to corrosion, low specific gravity, aesthetic appearance, etc. But polymer materials also have disadvantages that are not shared by metals. Compared to metals, they have lower mechanical strength, relatively low thermal stability, etc. Hence the idea to combine polymers and metals into compounds exhibiting as many advantages of either parent material as possible with the number of their disadvantages reduced to a minimum. Therefore, trials were commenced to fill polymers with dispersed surface-active metals to obtain the so-called metallopolymers, and a large number of synthesis procedures have been developed for obtaining organometallic polymers with metal atoms directly or indirectly linked to carbon in the chain. In this way, materials with valuable properties have been obtained, including typical nonconductors, semiconductors, and conductors, as well as materials having good tensile properties and at the same time being resistant to high temperatures. Some of these materials are also catalysts for quite a number of chemical reactions.

摘要:
The highly reactive terminal mercaptans of liquid polysulfide polymers can be converted into high molecular weight products very easily at ambient temperatures by oxidation or by reaction with other active polymers. Polysulfides have excellent solvent resistance, predictable cure, good low-temperature performance, good weathering, and excellent adhesion to many substrates. This combination of properties has given polysulfide polymers a modest but significant position as specialty polymers since their commercialization in 1929. Polysulfide sealants have found wide acceptance in industries, e.g., construction, aircraft, automotive, marine, and insulating glass. In fact, polysulfide sealants were the first elastomeric sealants used in the construction industry and continue today, to a large extent, the standard against which other sealants are compared. Polysulfide sealants, although facing strong challenges by silicones and polyurethanes, continue to be the dominant segment of the elastomeric sealant market [1–6].

摘要:
Epoxy resins are used in the RP/C industry when high-quality resins are needed. Adhesives, castings, and maintenance coatings are three areas where epoxies are used. Their superior chemical resistance allows them to be used as coatings, and their low shrinkage makes them ideal for use in castings [1]. There is a need for viscosity control in some of these epoxy applications.
