摘要:
After first being introduced at the International Plastics Show, Interplas, in London in 1961, plunger-type injection molding machines for thermosetting polyester molding compounds are today gaining growing acceptance in a field long dominated by compression and transfer types of equipment. The scope of this paper will be to present the latest developments occurring in plunger-type injection.

摘要:
The production of pyrolytic oils and tars from organic materials, notably cellulose and lignin, has been reported in the scientific literature for at least a century. Interest in this topic has intensified recently because of the potential for making liquid fuels and petroleum substitutes from waste organic materials, particularly wood, manure, and municipal trash. Plants are now operating to evaluate production of these oils on a pilot-plant or demonstration scale. At El Cajon, California, a 200-ton/day demonstration plant is operating to convert municipal trash into a pyrolytic oil [1], and at Albany, Oregon, a 3-ton/day pilot plant converts wood into oil [2]. The former is a direct pyrolytic process while the latter employs thermochemical alkaline digestion.

摘要:
There is an increasing demand both for thermoplastic and thermoset resins which, depending on the application, must exhibit one or more high performance characteristics. The resin chosen for a particular application must not only meet the end requirements but also must have good processing characteristics. High performance thermoplastic polymers and thermoset resins must possess one or more of the following characteristics: good thermal oxidative stability, good elevated temperature mechanical properties, high humidity resistance, good fatigue and toughness properties, and chemical and radiation resistance. In addition to the above properties, the polymers selected must exhibit good fire-resistant properties, especially if the material is intended for use in habitable areas. The material must exhibit the following properties when subjected to various flammability tests: low rate of heat release and fuel contribution, low smoke emission, and low concentration of toxic gases when subjected to a fire environment.
