摘要:
The excellent barrier properties of high nitrile plastics offer potential as materials for use in packaging of carbonated beverages and oxygen-sensitive foodstuffs. However, due to the viscoelastic nature of thermoplastics, improvement in creep resistance is essential for pressurized containers, such as plastic beer and beverage bottles, to resist the dimensional increases with time. Biaxial orientation and annealing are both effective in reducing the creep rate of pressurized plastic beverage containers.

摘要:
The widely used Flory-Huggins theory of polymer solution thermodynamics was presented in the literature in 1942 [1, 2]. It is based upon the quasilattice theory of solutions [3], and leads to an equation for the free energy of mixing polymeric solute with monomeric solvent which contains a combinatorial entropy of mixing term and a regular solution theory enthalpy of mixing term. In its original form the theory contains only one adjustable parameter, characteristic of the intermolecular forces between molecules in solution. Hildebrand's solubility parameter concept [4] may be used to estimate the value of this parameter.

The purpose of this presentation is to give some feeling to the plastic user of some of the considerations which must be given to environment health and safety in material selection in the light of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Obviously, the most hazardous materials will require more controls, adding expenses to production which must be added into the costs of production.

摘要:
Relative to the other branches of science, polymers made a late appearance. The concept of polymers as long-chain molecules was not widely accepted until the 1930s following the pioneering work of Staudinger, Carothers, and others. Synthetic polymers were emerging in great profusion from the laboratories, primarily those of industry. The development of methods for molecular characterization and synthesis enabled polymer chemistry to make rapid strides and initiated the modern age of polymers.
