摘要:
Over the decade from 1979 to 1989, significant advances have been made towards the study of transport characteristics of commercial polymer films. From a perusal of the literature in this area it is found that more than 400 patents have been published. Of these, about 300 appeared in the Japanese language and the remaining are available in other languages including English. It is, therefore, beyond the scope of any authoritative review to include the full details of all the patents. In this review we attempt to include only the representative data available from the chemical abstracts.

Poly(acrylonitrile/butadiene/styrene) (ABS) is a two-phase material consisting of elastomer particles in a glassy polymer matric of styrene and acrylonitrile (SAN) [1]. The photooxidation of ABS was the subject of several studies [2, 3]. It was suggested that several processes will take place during photooxidation. These changes include the formation of hydroperoxide [4], chain breakage of the polystyrene, and the oxidation of the polymer as it was monitored by IR spectroscopy [4–6]. Also photooxidation affect the polybutadiene in ABS and oxidizes it, which results in the formation of hydroperoxide. There are no data available on the thermal degradation of ABS. In a previous study the thermal aging of recycled high-impact polystyrene was studied using UV-vis spectroscopy [7]. It was found that this method provided very useful information about the degradation of several industrial polymers [8–12]. In this paper thermal degradation of ABS is investigated by UV-vis and IR spectroscopy.

摘要:
Liquid-crystalline compounds having carbon—carbon double bonds were synthesized and subjected to hydrosilylation using poly(hydrosiloxane)s as silylating agents and hexachloroplatinic acid as a catalyst. Even though the silylating agents were polymeric and the mesogenic compounds carried bulky groups as their side chains, the presence of a spacer (polymethylene chain) diminished the steric hindrance and the reaction was possible. Among the mesogens 1-(4′-allyloxybenzoyloxy)-4-(4″-methoxybenzoyloxy)phenylene is a new compound, and its synthesis is described in detail. The final products were side-chain-type liquid-crystalline polymers, that is, mesogenic group-grafted poly(siloxane)s, and a few of their liquid-crystalline properties are also elucidated.

摘要:
Potassium-n-butyl xanthate (PBX) has been synthesized and its role as an efficient antioxidant and accelerator has been verified by cure characteristics and aging studies, and compared with the performance of commercially available antioxidant phenyl-β-naphthylamine (PBN). A suitable mechanism for the role of potassium-n-butyl xanthate in stabilizing the rubber has been suggested.

摘要:
Oxidation of water-soluble hydroxyethyl cellulose with sodium hypochlorite has been studied under a variety of conditions. Variables studied included the concentration of sodium hypochlorite, pH, temperature, and catalyst. It was found that the rate of oxidation was increased by increasing the hypochlorite concentration and/or reaction temperatures. The rate is very slow in an alkaline medium and very rapid in neutral medium. The effect of catalyst on the rate of oxidation was also investigated. The apparent viscosities of the oxidized samples at various rates of shear were also investigated.
