摘要:
In-line fluorination of blow-molded containers provides a proven solvent barrier to HDPE containers. The total volume of solvents packaged in Airopak containers continues to increase as fluorinated HDPE containers are chosen for new solvent-based products and as a substitute for metal and glass containers with barrier properties approaching those of metal and glass at a cost competitive with other packaging alternatives.

摘要:
Developing blood compatible polymeric materials and/or modifying their surfaces for improved blood compatibility is an area of interest to many researchers. However, a satisfactory small diameter vascular graft (<4 mm) still is not available. The best alternative seems to be a sephanous vein. The complex nature of the problem is based on such multiparameters [1] as surface charge, critical surface tension, surface energy and its dispersion, polar components, flow conditions, surface morphology, and chemical group distribution on the surface besides matching mechanical compliances, nontoxicity, and noninflammatory in the physiological media.

摘要:
The major problem facing the development of a small diameter vascular graft (<5 rnm diameter) to be used for the replacement of a coronary artery is thrombogenicity at the interface. When blood comes in contact with an artificial surface, the initial event occurring is the adsorption of plasma proteins on the surface [1, 2], followed by adhesion of platelets and activation of the clotting mechanism resulting in thrombus formation [3,4]. The concentration of the various proteins adsorbed is largely dependent on the surface properties of the material.

Restrictions imposed by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) on the use of methylene bis(2-chloroaniline) (MOCA) forced the polymer group at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) to develop alternative urethane adhesives to the widely used Adiprene L loo/ MOCA system [1]. LLNL developed several segmented poly(ether-urethanes) based on 4,4′-methylene bis(pheny1 isocyanate), MDI, or 4,4′-methylene bis- (cyclohexyl isocyanate), HMDI. Since the unsaturated diisocyanate HMDI is much less reactive than MDI [2], aromatic diamines were used as chain extenders in the HMDI formulations. Polyether soft segments of tetramethylene ether glycols were used in our formulations because of a low temperature flexibility requirement [3]. Currently, OSHA is considering further controls on several aromatic diamines including methylene dianiline, MDA. Since MDA is a minor component in XU-205, the Ciba-Geigy aromatic diamine mixture used to cure HMDI prepolymers, we began looking for backup polyurethane adhesives.
