摘要:
Currently there is intense scientific and technological interest in molecular materials as diverse as quasi-one-dimensional organic crystals [1] and amorphous organic polymers [2, 3]. Despite this diversity they pose several common scientific issues that indicate potentially useful and important technological properties. They also offer opportunities for studying scientific questions characteristic of their particular genre. Through this predictive understanding, the possibility of marrying the best features of each is a strong motivator for the intense activity in these fields. A particularly interesting combination of such features exists in disordered organic solids to which the large and important class, polymers, belongs.

摘要:
The backsizing resin most commonly used in automotive carpet today is powdered, low-density polyethylene. Its primary function is to stiffen the carpet, but it also provides other very important properties. It allows the carpet to be thermoformable and also acts as an adhesive, holding the carpet together and bonding the jute underpad to the carpet as the carpet is reheated and molded.

摘要:
Wood is a complex and inhomogeneous macromolecular system made up of cellulose, hemicelluloses, lignin, mineral matter, and extractives. Most woods are relatively light in color, but all contain some coloring components. Within these, knowledge of the nature of chromophoric groups is still meager. Casey [1] claimed that almost every pulp component or reaction product is accused of being the carrier of chromophores. While it is generally conceded that the major contributor of color is the lignin component [2], it cannot be precluded that cellulose is not contributing also. In some species the extractives become the controlling factor [3–6]. Color reactions of lignin are a main subject of many textbooks [7–12].
