摘要:
A new stable platinum resistance thermometer, and the methods of construction, calibration, and testing are described. The design provides a differential (±2 K) thermometer over the range of 200 to 270 K. After environmental testing, the thermometer has demonstrated differential stability of better than ±1×10−3K over one year.

摘要:
A simple circuit that can be used to improve the signal‐to‐noise (S/N) ratio of a repetitive signal is described. Major simplifications in the circuit design are achieved by use of the amplifying and timing circuits of an oscilloscope to generate the input and timing signals for the boxcar integrator. The device can improve the S/N ratio of the input signal by better than 35 dB. It is usable over the 100 Hz‐160 kHz frequency range.

摘要:
By simple diffusion and etching procedures low temperature sensitive surface layers can be prepared on otherwise insulating silicon substrates. Temperature coefficients of the resistance of these layers of the order of unity can be obtained at any temperatures below 20 K. The usefulness of this silicon device as a low temperature thermometer and bolometer is demonstrated.

摘要:
A simple fatigue machine suitable for testing wires, filaments, foils, and other specimens of small cross section has been designed and built. The axial‐load machine applies an alternating stress about a tensile mean stress and is of the constant amplitude of force type utilizing electromagnetic loading. One data curve for commercially pure titanium wire is presented to demonstrate the performance achieved.

摘要:
This paper describes a pressure vessel which accommodates optical measurements in liquid samples in the pressure range extending to about 4000 kg/cm2and is designed to be used in conjunction with corrosive or sensitive materials. The sample is enclosed in such a manner as to contact only a Teflon compartment and the window surfaces. Simplicity of design is achieved by forming the high pressure seal on the inside window surfaces, an expedient which also permits the inclusion of more than one sample cell in the pressure vessel.

摘要:
Ion cyclotron resonance spectroscopy has been adopted for the detection of gaseous ions formed within an analyzer cell of new design. Ions formed by electron impact have been trapped within the analyzer cell for as long as 0.10 sec and detected with a half‐height mass resolution of 5000. Even at pressures of 10−5Torr ion‐molecule reactions of high kinetic order may be observed. An important feature of the trapped ion analyzer cell is that it retains the capability of the ICR double resonance experiment for elucidating the reaction sequence occurring in a complex mixture of primary ions and high order product ions. A pulsed magnetic field detection scheme accurately limits the residence time of the ions within the trapped ion analyzer cell.

摘要:
Small thin fully electroded disk samples (e.g., 0.05 cm diam by 0.01 cm thick) are necessary for measurements of ferroelectric switching times less than 50 nsec. Techniques are described for forming and processing such disks. Electroded disks are suspended by the lead wires in an oil filled electroded cell for ease and reliability in handling. The cell technique allows high field switching measurements on a large range of sample sizes for determination of dimensional effects.

A power meter is described in detail for large or divergent laser beams, either cw or repetitively pulsed. The meter measures the flow of heat generated by the beam and is calibrated with an electrical heater wound just behind the absorbing surface. The meter is capable of power measurements of 1 to 30 W accurate to ±2.5%.

摘要:
A new technique for real time analysis and display of pulsed laser propagation data is described and initial test results of the method are presented. The technique centers around the use of a dual parameter, pulse height analyzer to record and display data in a rectangular X‐Y field. The display gives a real time visual indication of the quality of the test results. It is shown that the emission from long pulse ruby and erbium lasers can be analyzed and displayed in the proposed manner.
