摘要:
An electronic apparatus has been designed which can separate random noise, 60 cps pickup, and other disturbances from a periodic signal of any wave form, including a square‐wave form, with little distortion of the shape of the periodic signal, provided the frequency of the disturbance is not a multiple of the signal frequency. This noise discriminator is not a filter in the morphological sense, but an instrument which synthesizes a new signal built up of the fundamental and higher harmonics of the input signal. The output has the same shape as the noise‐free portion of the input but is at a much lower frequency.

摘要:
The construction, operation, and inherent errors of a quartz fiber torsion pendulum balance are described. Determinations of the period of the pendulum with an accuracy of 50 &mgr;sec are easily possible. These determinations make possible the indirect weighing of a two‐gram sample to 0.1 mg.

摘要:
The design and performance of a high source type, 180° focusing, variable field, beta‐ray spectrometer‐spectrograph are described. Some details regarding the measurement of magnetic field, the construction of end‐window Geiger counters, and the preparation and thickness measurement of thin Formvar counter windows are also discussed.

摘要:
Each of the Aerovanes used on the 420‐ft meteorology tower at Brookhaven has been tested in one or more wind tunnels. An equation of motion is defined. Comparisons are offered in terms of the period of each instrument and its damping coefficient. Other comparisons include starting speeds, stopping speeds, and the effects of aging and unbalance on the performance of Aerovane propellers. The effect of yaw on the readings of windmill‐type anemometers has been investigated further. An expression is given for the relationship between true speed, indicated speed, and angular displacement. The recovery time of an Aerovane propeller from rest can be expressed as a hyperbolic function of speed.

摘要:
A fast neutron scintillator adapted to end‐window photomultipliers is described for neutron detection above ∼0.3‐Mev energy. Light pulses are produced by the action of recoil protons from paraffine on zinc sulfide phosphor, the optimum weight ratio of the paraffine‐zinc sulfide mixture being 3:2. Interfering gamma‐ray pulses are suppressed by a 3 microsecond time‐constant in the photomultiplier output circuit, and subsequent amplitude discrimination. A detection efficiency of 3.8 percent is attained for 4.1‐Mev neutrons through the incorporation of ½‐inch deep Lucite light guides.

摘要:
Two electronic voltmeters are used to present the systolic and diastolic blood pressure. One of these voltmeters is the peak reading type to show the systolic pressure, the other is a modified peak reading voltmeter which presents the diastolic pressure. This unit is applicable to any system which converts pressure to a varying dc voltage.
