摘要:
The depolarized light mixing (DLM) system is presented as a useful device in light beating spectroscopy for the observation of molecular rotation, deformation, and reaction which accompany an anisotropic change of polarizability. The system has the following merits: (1) Doppler broadening does not appear because it observes forward scattering; (2) only the line shape coming from a pure anisotropic polarizability change is obtained; (3) it can work automatically as an optical heterodyne system with the stray light from the second polarizer serving as a local oscillator light; (4) there is no difficulty in matching the wavefronts of the scattered light and local oscillator beam; and (5) the scattering volume can be made large without diminishing the efficiency of light beating. These characteristics are described through the numerical evaluation of beating efficiency and signal‐to‐noise ratio.

摘要:
A severe limitation in the use of the exploding wire phenomenon for chemical synthesis has been the relatively small amount of product that can be prepared by single metal explosions. This problem has been overcome by development of a successive multiple explosion technique in which a large number of wire explosions can be effected in rapid fire order, without breaking the initial vacuum seal. Preset wires are contained in a cylinder which is rotated stepwise over an orifice, thereby dropping the wires into a lower chamber where contact is made with stationary electrodes, across which a high potential has been imposed. This technique is shown to be at least as effective as the single explosion technique in the preparation of compounds that are relatively free of unreacted metal. It was also found that this technique can be used for the preparation of specific particle sizes. The particle size of product powders was found to be quite dependent upon the magnitude of the applied voltage. In general, particle size decreases with increased voltage.

摘要:
A modified version of the quinary ring scaler was developed incorporating speed‐up techniques which had previously been applied only to individual current‐mode switches. Computer evaluation of this circuit, using the generalized circuit analysis program NET I, indicated that a minimum theoretical triple pulse resolution time of 1.2 nsec was possible in an idealized environment. An experimental version of this circuit had a minimum double pulse resolving time of 1.7 nsec. This value is equivalent to a periodic repetition rate of approximately 600 MHz.

摘要:
The characteristics and the electronic circuit of an automatic test set which can perform the measurement of doping profile of a semiconductor epitaxial layer are reported. The doping profile presentation is on an X‐Y plotter. The technique used is that of realizing a Schottky barrier on the epitaxial film and of measuring the capacitance and its derivative vs the reverse voltage applied to the junction. An analog elaboration of this information, according to the Schottky barrier diode equations, finally gives the desired doping profile. Experimental results on different epitaxial layers are reported. If the geometrical dimensions of the Schottky barrier diode are known, an absolute calibration of the carrier concentration is possible.

摘要:
The use of rhodium, ruthenium, and technetium is proposed for balanced filters for silver K&agr; x rays. Rhodium and ruthenium are used to isolate the K&agr;1, ruthenium and technetium for the K&agr;2, and rhodium and technetium are used for the K&agr; doublet. General criteria are given for optimizing the intensity in terms of the transmission of one of the filters at the line of interest. The transmission of filter A (lowest atomic number) for any of the filter pairs should be about 12% for silver K&agr; x rays.
