摘要:

A nozzle beam source that can be operated to 3 K with helium gas is described. At this lowest temperature the full width at half maximum in velocity is 9%, the gas flow rate is 3.3 atmospheric ml/min of room temperature helium, and the density is 4.6×1012atoms/cm3measured 2.5 cm from the source.

The design of an X‐band cylindrical TE011cavity resonator with a 25 mm diam axial access hole for gas‐phase EPR studies is described. The empty cavity is tunable over a frequency range of at least 8.0–10.0 GHz and critical coupling is attained over this range with a novel variable coupling device.

Double focusing of charged particles by a magnet with uniform field and circular poles can be obtained for any single deflection angle by directing the beam at an appropriate point away from the axis of the poles. For a bend of 119.25° the aberration arising from radially divergent ions is eliminated.

A switching circuit is described by which the ouput of low voltage, medium current power supply may be converted to two square waves 180° out of phase from each other. Frequency response at 100 Hz, 1 kHz, and 5 kHz is shown. Maximum voltage and current are 9 V and 20 A, respectively.
