A rocking furnace is described that permits variable agitation of melts prior to crystal growth. The design permits adjustment of furnace inclination, variation of oscillation frequency and amplitude, and rotation of the furnace into a vertical position. The fabrication of an explosion‐proof furnace and sample‐mounting procedure are also described.

摘要:

A contactless method of generating ultrasonic Rayleigh waves at MHz frequencies in metals using the electromagnetic generation technique is described. The method requires the use of photographic printed circuit techniques for the production of the meander coil transducers. Excellent efficiency is achieved and insertion losses are as low as 78 dB in aluminum with an external magnetic field of 5 kG and a frequency of 4.75 MHz.

This note describes a bakeable (up to 450°C) isolation valve made of glass using a standard ground ball and socket joint. The valve is useful for most glass UHV systems, e.g., field‐ion microscopes or gauge calibration.
