摘要:
In this note, we report the use of a combined mu‐metal and niobium superconductor shielding which results in much improved dc SQUID operation. The configuration is suitable for large experiments and is much cheaper than the mu‐metal shielding conventionally used.

摘要:
A quadruple thickness monitor, based on quartz oscillators, in order to control the co‐evaporation of quaternary alloys, is described in detail. Saturated crystals can be changed without interrupting the vacuum. The system is satisfactory in very high vacuum (no degassing at 10−8Torr) and can be adapted to ultrahigh vacuum.

摘要:
A light emitting diode has been used as a convenient current sensor for electrostatic double probes under conditions of very high common mode voltages at frequencies around 1 MHz. A simple probe circuit permitted the signal to be transmitted optically to a remote conditioning and detection circuit. A calibration curve was used to correct the nonlinearities in the system.

摘要:
An inexpensive sample transfer system suitable for surface studies withinsituprepared model catalysts is described. Experiments from ultrahigh vacuum to 10 atm and 50‐cm travel with negligible pressure spikes were made possible by the use of double‐seal glands with spring‐loaded Teflon O‐rings and a guided rotational transport rod.
