摘要:
Because of the essentially constant percentange resolution and transmission characteristics of electrostatic deflection−type electron energy analyzers, their use in potential modulation−type spectroscopies (such as Auger electron spectroscopy) is problematic, in that it is essentially impossible to choose a potential modulation amplitude capable of yielding anywhere near optimum resolution and/or sensitivity all the way across any wide energy range spectrum. A simple circuit for alleviating this problem is presented and demonstrated.

摘要:
A transient method for measuring extremely small conductances (specific conductance ∼10−14mho/cm) is described. Long−time dielectric relaxation times can also be determined with the addition of a capacitance calibration. Direct current conductance data of commercially available cholesteryl linoleate are presented as a function of reciprocal temperature.

We describe simple superconducting stepping motors capable of rotating apparatus at dilution refrigerator temperatures. The heat produced by friction in a motor and its 10:1 reduction gearing is 6 ergs per step of 3°.

摘要:
Beryllium windows, 76 mm diam and 0.25 mm thick, were joined to stainless−steel flanges by electroplating the joint area with nickel. The procedures for surface preparation of both materials and the technique used for joining the materials with nickel are described. Electroplated joints made with this method have proved to be vacuum tight to helium. By using this technique, shrinkage stresses, distortion, and recrystallization problems associated with high−temperature joining processes are eliminated.

摘要:
A simple, efficient generator of clean steam for the oxidation of semiconductor wafers is described. The generator employs infrared radiation to evaporate large quantities of water from the boiler’s surface without visible agitation. A water overflow reservoir and simple valving arrangement is also described which provides for continuous as well as intermittent operation of the generator and for the possible introduction into the furnace tube of other gases such as oxygen, nitrogen, HCL, etc.
