摘要:
A sample‐manipulator attachment to a UHV angle‐resolving photoemission system is described which permits the sample to be rotated azimuthally and to be transported to a LEED/Auger optics. The manipulator may be assembled from readily available commercial parts.

摘要:
We describe the design, fabrication, and utilization of a simple sample cell for extended x‐ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) measurements at elevated temperature. The cell is rigid, inert, easy to fabricate, cheap and effective in maintaining the critical specimen dimensions of both solid and liquid samples up to 1000 °C.

摘要:
A simple discharge lamp with a microwave cavity fitting inside provides an intense source of VUV resonance radiation for photochemical work inside a vacuum chamber. Good coupling and minimum reabsorption result in better efficiency (≳1%) and more intense output power (up to 2.5×1016quanta s−1) than have been achieved previously.

This device filters any desired subset of frequencies from a multiple‐frequency laser without reducing substantially either the power in the remaining frequencies or the optical quality of the reconstructed beam. It should be useful in multiple‐frequency laser photochemistry and the probing of multiple‐frequency laser media.

A new type of V block is described. It is constructed from separate elements and is suitable for use with heavy loads. Its accuracy is the same as conventional monolithic V blocks while its cost is much lower than that of commercial precision V blocks.

Some modifications of the electric circuitry are described for the apparatus of the internal friction measurement of thin wire specimens; the apparatus has been developed by Franklinetal. The improved apparatus has been successfully used in the internal friction measurements of cold‐worked vanadium specimens.

摘要:
We report a measurement of the absolute efficiency of a Johnston Laboratories MMl electron multiplier for detection of 2–4 keV Ne+. The measured detection efficiency depends both on ion impact energy and on the magnitude and direction of an externally applied electric field near the first dynode.

摘要:
A small gas filling apparatus has been developed to fill a particle beam ICF target with D–T gas mixture seconds before the target is irradiated. Included in the filling apparatus is a novel miniature pressure monitor which determines quantitatively the fill pressure by counting the rate of Beta particles emitted by the decaying tritium atoms.
