Time jitter in a rotary spark gap is greatly reduced by use of a simple triggering scheme. Triggering permits accurately timed single‐pulse and pulse‐burst operation, as well as repetitive pulsing.

摘要:
A single‐turn toroidal optimization of the inductor in the LC circuit of a capacitive displacement transducer is described. It has a higher Q than the usual multiturn coil and allows the construction of a rigid LC resonator which does not use any insulators. When this resonator is used in conjunction with a tunnel diode oscillator, the sensitivity of the capacitor to position changes is conservatively estimated as 7×10−12cm.

摘要:
An instrument is described that determines the magnitude of an electric field over a surface by lowering an elevated, grounded, metal point until a corona current ceases to flow from it. Measurements with this apparatus in New Mexico indicate that the maximum thunderstorm electric field over the water surface of a reservoir is considerably larger than that usually encountered over land surfaces.

An inexpensive electronic interface which controls the flow of a phase‐detected signal from a slow‐scan Michelson interferometer to a signal averager is described. This interface is designed to add the advantages of signal averaging techniques to an existing slow scan interferometer system which employs phase sensitive detection and time constant averaging.
