摘要:
Metallic vapor emitted from a source can be deflected prior to depositing on an observation view port by imposing fans whose blades rotate perpendicular to the atoms flight path. The effectiveness of this technique is demonstrated with tin vapor in terms of relative rate deposition and visual examination as a function of the imposed rotation rate. The consequence of fan rotation on sample visibility is shown to be negligible.

摘要:
The advantages of on‐demand pulse charging of high‐voltage (HV) capacitors are discussed, highlighted by use of the technique to reduce the pulse width of a nitrogen laser to subnanosecond. Pulse charging reduces the HV stress on the capacitor dielectric resulting in a more compact laser reducing the discharge time of the laser strip‐line capacitor. The HV pulse for charging is produced by switching a low‐voltage capacitor via a step‐up coil into the HV strip‐line capacitor which is then immediately discharged. The system reduces the on‐charge duty cycle to below 0.001.

摘要:
This paper describes the design and operating characteristics of a reasonably compact, semi‐sealed‐off, high‐efficiency XeCl laser operating at prfs <170 Hz by a stable discharge system using a new type of surface‐wire‐corona preionizer. An efficient laser operation at a slope efficiency of 1.6% with an average power of 4.1 W (150 Hz) has been achieved from a discharge volume of 52 cc with an active length of 26 cm. With a small amount of H2as additive, ≳2×106shots have been achieved on a single gas fill and an estimated half‐power lifetime of 3×107shots made.

摘要:
An ultrahigh vacuum leak valve is described, which can be baked up to 450 °C. The throughput can be adjusted between 1×10−10and 5×10−6Pa m3 s−1. The actuator is a piezoelectric stack which can be easily removed and set back. The baking temperature with the actuator in place is limited by the thermal specifications of the piezoelectric material. The inner surfaces, which are solely stainless‐steel and gold, allow an almost unlimited choice of working gases.

摘要:
This note describes the design and performance of a pulsed valve developed as a gas source for a 500 mm long supersonic Laval nozzle with a 3 mm wide throat. The valve consists of a rotating drum with a slit, which allows an opening duration of approximately 14 ms. The duration of quasi‐steady‐state expansion is measured to be 10 ms at the nozzle throat when the pulsed valve is filled with 200 Torr of Ar gas.

摘要:
In the cited article, an x‐ray source developed for extended x‐ray absorption fine structure measurements is described. After the publication, the authors have further improved the performance by employing a compact rotating anode and by optimizing an electron gun. This new x‐ray generator provides high tube current of 1100 mA at 18 kV with the narrow focal spot of about 0.1 mm in width. Extremely intense monochromatic x rays, which are completely free from higher order reflections, are now available in a laboratory, and the measurement time required for a practical sample has been shortened to less than 2 h.
