A simple shock‐wave detector for use in shock tube experiments is presented. The detector consists of a thin metal diaphragm and an electrode which contact upon arrival of the shock‐wave pressure step.

摘要:
A linear, liquid‐resistivity meter circuit is described that operates by charging and discharging a capacitor through a cell in which the liquid is included, rendering no dc component across it. The resulting oscillating waveform is shown to have a period proportional to the cell resistance. A period–voltage converter is added in order to indicate the resistance on a moving coil instrument. The system’s dc supply and low consumption permit easy battery operation.

Pole‐zero cancellation was applied to the feedback circuit of wide‐band preamplifiers to improve the baseline stability and reduce the saturation of the output for high count rates (106counts/sec) or large output signals (≳1 V), without compromising the bias point stabilization.

摘要:
An electromagnetic levitation apparatus incorporating an electron beam for auxiliary heating and melting has been developed for experiments on containerless vacuum purification and undercooled solidification of high melting materials. Stable levitation of 10‐g specimens of molten tungsten has been achieved and a variety of containerless solidification experiments is being performed, including pure polycrystalline castings and single tungsten crystals grown from the undercooled levitated melts.

摘要:
A new bonding process is described which is suitable for applying electrodes to the external surfaces of spacecraft and sounding rockets. A polyimide material containing small, uniform glass spheres provides the necessary insulation and mechanical strength. The bonded electrodes are simple to construct and are shown to have good electrical, vacuum, and thermal properties.

The circuit described is capable of generating high‐current (2–50 A), fast‐rise‐time (10 nsec), square‐wave pulses into a 50‐&OHgr; load. This circuit may be used for driving injection lasers at high repetition rates (up to 1.5 kHz) when connected to coaxial cables.
