摘要:
A displacement sensor with a hollow metal optical waveguide and a flat mirror is investigated. The sensor utilizes the principle of different attenuation for low and higher order light modes propagated in a hollow metal waveguide. The sensor has high sensitivity for small displacements, a broad measurement range, a one-side optoelectronic device location, and simple and inexpensive design. ©1997 American Institute of Physics.

摘要:
A simple method is described for forming superconducting contacts to niobium thin films, as used for current perpendicular to the plane measurements of the resistance of magnetic multilayers, using an indium–Roses alloy (Bi 50/Pb 28/Sn 22) solder alloy. This solder alloy has a critical magnetic field of approximately 1.2 T. ©1997 American Institute of Physics.

摘要:
A 1.5 m augmented railgun using a permanent magnet (ARGPM) has been assembled and tested. The goal of this work is to demonstrate fusion pellet injection with an extremely high velocity, in excess of 5 km/s. In this work, a wood fiber projectile is accelerated up to a velocity of 3.3 km/s in a plasma armature railgun without preaccelerators. Also, the velocity possible for a very light projectile accelerated by the ARGPM is discussed. ©1997 American Institute of Physics.
