摘要:
The electrostatic generator previously located at Round Hill has been transferred to the M.I.T. grounds in Cambridge. The present generator construction and also a high voltage accelerating tube mounted vertically in one of the columns are described. An account is given of experience with the acceleration of positive ion and electron beams and with the x‐ray bombardment of indium, beryllium, and deuterium.

摘要:
An equation was derived for the fractionQof the incident x‐ray powerPwhich escapes as kinetic energy of electrons.Q=0.140&tgr;S(1+e−&mgr;l)r−1r1−&lgr;&lgr;K3+1r1−&lgr;&lgr;L3+1.20(1−wK)(r−1)r&lgr;&lgr;K&agr;−&lgr;&lgr;L3,where &tgr; and &mgr; are, respectively, the linear true and total absorption coefficients for the incident wave‐length &lgr;,Sis the range of an electron having an energyh&ngr;corresponding to the wave‐length &lgr;,ris theKabsorption jump ratio andwKis theKfluorescent yield. &lgr;K&agr;, &lgr;Kand &lgr;Lare, respectively, the wave‐lengths of theKlines, theKabsorption limit and theLabsorption limit. This equation can be used to eliminate the necessity of guard electrodes.

摘要:
Application of cathode phase inversion previously described is made to several practical circuits including symmetrical cathode‐ray oscillograph amplification, high fidelity d.c. amplification, and differential or mixer amplifier operation. The theory of a symmetrical degenerative attenuator modification of the basic circuit is developed and practical applications are described.

摘要:
A monochromator for concentrating radiation of wave‐length 0.71A has been made by disposing about a common symmetry axis a group of eight rocksalt crystals each plastically deformed and ground to the spindle surface curvature required for focusing radiation from a point source to a point image. The maximum monochromatic intensity at the focus exceeds the intensity of the total radiation from the molybdenum‐target source when received directly at the same location.
