摘要:
Traditionally, fraction-nonconforming is treated as a Bernouilli variable with the attendant assumption of independence in constructing the acceptance sampling plans. This study relaxes the independence assumption in attribute sampling and provides a convenient nomogram to incorporate the effects of dependence into the sampling plans. The nomogram provides convenient answers for a number of questions about sampling with attributes. The study simplifies the procedural details, virtually eliminates the computation and facilitates the rapid scanning and evaluation of alternative solutions.

摘要:
The fluctuation of the gold price has significant impact on the economic and social aspects of a society. In the literature, most authors have employed fundamental analysis approach in forecast model building. The basic principle underlying this approach is that it is the supply and the demand which simultaneously determines the gold price. However, due to the lack of data of quantity supplied and quantity demanded, simultaneous econometric approach seems unsuccessful. In this paper, combined and composite time series forecasting techniques are proposed. The effects of various economic factors towards spot price of gold are also examined. Among the combined forecasting models, it seems that the odds-matrix method of assigning weights provides the most accurate forecasts of spot price of gold. For the economic factors considered, the futures price of gold and and the exchange rate seem to be most informative in forecasting the spot price of gold.

摘要:
The marginal posterior probability density function (pdf) for the mean of a stationary pth order Gaussian autoregressive process is derived using the conditional likelihood function. While the posterior pdf provides a small sample analysis, the pdf is not well known and must be analyzed numerically. This is relatively easy since it is a function of only one variable. Two sets of examples are presented. The first set involves synthetic data generated by computer, and the second set deals with energy expenditure data on a bum patient.

摘要:
Row x column interaction is frequently assumed to be negligible in two-way classifications having one observation per cell. Absence of interaction allows the researcher to estimate experimental error and to proceed with making inferences about row and column effects. If additivity is suspect, it is conventional to test it against a structured alternative. If the structured alternative missspecifies the existing nonadditivity, then the power of the test is low, even if the magnitude of the existing nonadditivity is large. The locally best invariant (LBI) test of additivity is less subject to model misspecification because a particular structural alternative need not be hypothesized. This paper illustrates the LBI test of additivity and compares its power to that of the Johnson-Graybill likelihood ratio (LR) test. The LBI test performs as well as the LR test under a Johnson-Graybill alternative and performs better than the LR test under more general alternatives.

摘要:
A generalized numerical method for the fit of regression curves to experimental data is given. It is an ordered iteration procedure that has enabled representation of data by non-linear forms of function containing many coefficients, including integral and non-linear differential equations that themselves require numerical solution. It requires only that the function is entered into the computer program and unlike existing techniques requires no further analysis.

摘要:
In the present study we have evaluated two competing methods for estimation of the impulse response weights used in the identification of transfer function models:a time domain method involving biased regression techniques and a frequency domain method utilizing a discrete Fourier transform of the cross-covariance system of the transfer function model. The algorithms were implemented on a VAX-8800 computer at the Computing Center at Åbo Akademi. The evaluation of the competing methods was carried out by simulations of different transfer function noise model structures. The models are essentially the same as those of Edlund, but we have used a far greater number of replications in the cases tested. Furthermore, we have used actually identified and estimated autoregressive integrated moving-average models of the residuals in the identification procedure of impulse response weights, in contrast with Edlund who only used theoretical noise models in filtering the input and output series. After a shot discussion of the underlying theory, we present the procedures and results of the empirical testing.

摘要:
The methods developed by John and Draper et al. of partitioning the blends (runs) of four mixture components into two or more orthogonal blocks when fitting quadratic models are extended to mixtures of five components. The characteristics of Latin squares of side five are used to derive rules for reliably and quickly obtaining designs with specific properties. The designs also produce orthogonal blocks when higher order models are fitted.

摘要:
Soils from locations near Amsterdam, Dublin, Exeter (SW England), Göttingen, Paris and in the Grizedale Forest (NW England) were placed in lysimeters in a Norway spruce (Picea abies) stand in the Grizedale Forest and the soil solutions, rainfall and throughfall were monitored for 54 weeks. Two-way data tables for SO4, NH4, NO3, Al, Mg, Ca and pH were analysed by median polishing, in which each observed data value is decomposed into a typical value plus a row effect plus a column effect plus a residual. The row effects suggested that SO4 was the main acidifying influence in the Göttingen soil, but in the other soils SO4 had less effect than did NO3. The column effects showed little variation over the 54 weeks. Low values for NO3 in March-May and September were associated with periods of low or zero rainfall. The residuals contained from 27% (Al) to 59% (NO3) of the variation. Some were interpretable and contained useful information. Where the residuals are considered to represent uninterpretable random variation (‘noise’) they can be subtracted from the original data to give corrected data for other types of analysis. In median polishing, changing a few values in the input data, even drastically, will result in unusual residuals only in the cells with altered values. Hence, it is a useful technique for screening two-way data tables obtained from field experiments.

摘要:
Using the spatial dependence of observations from multivariate images, it is possible to construct methods for data reduction that perform better than the widely used principal components procedure. Switzer and Green introduced the min/max autocorrelation factors (MAF) process for transforming the data to a new set of vectors where the components are arranged according to the amount of autocorrelation. MAF performs well when the underlying image consists of large homogeneous regions. For images with many transitions between smaller homogeneous regions, however, MAF may not perform well. A modification of the MAF process, the restricted min/max autocorrelation factors (RMAF) process, which takes into account the transitions between homogeneous regions, is introduced. Simulation experiments show that large improvements can be achieved using RMAF rather than MAF.
