Thirty‐three reference samples from the United States Geological Survey (USGS), Centre de Recherches Pétrographiques et Géochimiques (CRPG, France), Association Rationale de la Recherche Technique (ANRT, France), National Institute for Metallurgy (NIM, South Africa), Geotechnic Institute (GI, Austria), Mineralogical Institute of Basel and Bern (Switzerland), Zentrales Geolo‐gisahes Institut (ZG1, DDR) and from the For‐chungeinstitut der Zementinduatrie (Düsseldorf, GDF) were analysed for their fluorine and total water content. Ion exchange chromatography is extremely well suited for the complete or partial separation of trace and ultra‐trace elements from rooks and minerals. Selective methods are described for the separation of traces of lithium, beryllium, vanadium, uranium, strontium, barium, sodium, potassium and rare earth elements, and their determination in rook samples. 摘要:
Most trace elements in ultrabasic rock samples are very often present in concentration levels of less than 10 ppm. In these cases, neutron activation analysis (NAA) is very useful. We have applied two different NAA procedures for the determination of 19 trace elements and CaO in two ultrabasic rock standards. Our values are compared with the preferred and published values, although the latter are not very abundant.

Six rock reference samples (granite, syenite, lujavrite, norite, pyroxenite, dunite) in 250 kg quantities were prepared by the National Institute for Metallurgy (NIM) in 1966. Analytical data contributed by co‐operating laboratories for minor and trace elements in these NIMROC samples since then are presented here.Relevant statistical data are briefly presented; recommended values are given for those elements for which the number of results and their quality are reasonably acceptable. A brief description is also given of the procedures that were used in the estimation of these recommended values but for more details, the original NIM Report No. 1945, dated February 28, 1978 should be consulte
