摘要:
Summary1Only two species of Curculionidae,Pentarthrum carmichaeliWaterhouse (Cossoninae) andTristartodes scirpophilusBrinck (Cylydrorhininae) have been collected on Gough Island. The last larval instar of the latter species is described. In the Tristan group,P. carmichaeliappears characteristic of the coastal zone, andT. scirpophilusofScirpusclumps on upland bogs and wet heaths.2The Curculionid fauna of these islands appears to be poor in numbers of individuals as well as in species.3The presence of the brachypterousTristanodes scirpophiluson both Gough Island and Tristan da Cunha is anomalous, since this genus shows a high degree of insular endemism. Possible dispersal agencies are discussed.4The systematic position of the Palaechtini, a tribe reputedly confined to the Tristan group is considered, and it is concluded that it is not separable from the Listroderini.5Both the genusPentarthrum(re‐interpreted), and the Listroderini have an essentially southern temperate distribution. The Curculionid fauna of the Tristan group is most closely related to that of southern South Americ

摘要:
SummaryThe habits of some central Asian insectivores are described. In western China and northern Burma these are essentially alpine animals living at relatively high altitudes. Some of these high‐altitude animals have been found on the Irrawaddi‐Salween divide and Imaw Bum, an isolated massive in eastern Burma, living under less severe conditions. It is suggested that when the Central Asian ice sheet extended further south conditions in these lower latitudes were similar to those found further north today and that these high‐altitude animals have been left isolated by the retreating ice, to compete successfully with the invading subtropical
