摘要:
Food habits of the green lizard(Lacerta bilineata)were studied in some Mediterranean sites of the vicinities of Rome (Latium, central Italy), by means both of stomach dissection of individuals found already dead in the field and faeces analysis of living individuals. The taxonomic diet composition of the lizards was accurately described by both methods, thus demonstrating the reliability of faecal pellet analysis as an non‐cruel method to study lizard diets. However, by using the faeces analysis technique, it is difficult to measure the exact food intake rate (items / unit of time) as well as the size distribution of prey ingested by lizards. There was a remarkable ontogenetic change in the taxonomic diet composition of green lizards: adults essentially consumed beetles and isopods, whereas juveniles fed mainly upon orthopterans, spiders, and Rhynchota. Cannibalism and predation upon small vertebrates (lizards) were very rare events. It is suggested that (i) age‐related differences in microhabitat frequented could explain the dietary differences between young and adult lizards due to different availability of the various prey categories in the various microhabitats, and that (ii) adults and juveniles partition their habitats to reduce intraspecific interference competition.

摘要:
A new species of sponge, belonging to the genusDelectona, has been observed in the corallites ofLeptopsammia pruvotiandMadracis pharensisliving in semidark caves on the Portofino Promontory (Ligurian Sea). The species, here described asDelectona madreporica, has a spicular complement composed of rhabds, which are very irregular in shape and size and derived from fusiform amphiasters, by oxyasters derived from slender amphiasters and by toxiform, sometimes centrotylote, microxeas. The taxonomic position of this species is discussed.

摘要:
A new species ofRetevirgula, Retevirgula akdenizaesp. n., was collected during the “Akdeniz ‘92” campaign at Datcha (Turkey) from a Posidonia meadow. It is characterized by autozooids with 13–16 spines, avicularia with one or two proximal spines and lacking a complete cross‐bar, kenozooids with some spines, ovicells with a longitudinal distal slit. The genusRetevirgula, hitherto never collected from the Mediterranean Sea, is represented by 13 species and one variety, and shows a distribution from warm temperate to tropical areas. Phylogenetic relationship ofR. akdenizaesp. n. with otherRetevirgulaspecies are at present obscure.

摘要:
The results of a year's survey on the parasitic infestation of the gastrointestinal tract of three species of benthic fish, namelySerranus scriba, Mullus surmuletus, andScorpaena porcus, living in a restricted coastal seaground in the N/W sector of the Gulf of Palermo, are reported and critically discussed. Fish populations were sampled monthly by means of a trammel net, according to the local fishing usage. As many as nine helminth species, five of them trematodes and four nematodes, were collected from the gastrointestinal tract of 625 individuals. Infestation was most intense inM. surmuletus, with a peak in the spring.S. scribawas especially parasitized during the spring and summer, whereasS. porcusshowed no appreciable variations over the year, but only a slight increase in the spring. A positive relation of the degree of infestation to feeding habits, and especially to crustacean prey, was demonstrated.M. surmuletusandS. scribaare very likely final hosts ofH. fabri, whereasS. porcusis merely an intermediate one.
