摘要:
A study was conducted to determine preimaginal developmental rate, adult survival, and fertility of two populations ofEretmocerussp. that parasitizeBemisia tabaci(Gennadius). An arrhenotokous parasitoid population was collected in Indio, Calif., and a thelytokous parasitoid population was collected from Oahu, Hawaii. Experiments were conducted with parasitoids reared onB. tabacihosts living on cotton,Gossypium hirsutumL. (‘Delta Pine 61’), or cucumber,Cucumis sativusL. (‘Poinsett 76’), in temperature-controlled cabinets at 20.0 and 29.0%C. Significant differences in preimaginal developmental periods were found between populations, temperatures, and plants. Adult longevity was greatest at lower temperatures. A limited preoviposition period existed. Fertilities were higher on cucumber and at 29.0%C. The sex ratio of the arrhenotokous population favored females. The intrinsic rate of natural increase (rm) for the arrhenotokous population varied from 0.0610 to 0.1149 on cotton and from 0.0856 to 0.1824 on cucumber, at 20.0 and 29.0‘C. Values for rmfor the thelytokous population varied hom 0.0858 to 0.1608 on cotton and from 0.0980 to 0.2117 on cucumber, at 20.0 and 29.0%C. The results indicate that biological control ofB. tabaciwould probably be better obtained byEretmocerussp. population from Hawaii at higher temperatures.

摘要:
A population ofClitostethus arcuatus(Rossi), originating in Israel, was imported into California in 1989. Laboratory studies at three temperatures (21.1, 28.2, 32.2°C) usingSiphoninus phillyreae(Haliday) as prey indicated maximum developmental rates, survival, and fertility at 28.2°C. At 28.2°C, development from egg to adult required a mean of 15.6 d, egg-to-adult survival was 78%, sex ratio of surviving progeny was 1:1, females lived an average of 82 d and laid an average of 202 eggs. Developmental rates and fertility were slightly lower and survival was similar at 21.1°C. Development was slower and survival and fertility were reduced substantially at 32.2°C.

摘要:
After biological control of the mango shoot caterpillar,Penicillaria jocosatrixGuenée (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), on Guam, populations of four other species of Lepidoptera using mango increased. These included three species of Geometridae—the widespreadAnisodes illepidariaGuenée,Thalassodessp., and Chloroclystis sp.—and the noctuidNanaguna breviusculaWalker.Thalassodessp.,Chloroclystissp., andN. breviusculawere most commonly found on mango inflorescences, and probably became more abundant as a result of an increase in mango flowers.A. illepidariacaterpillars, which eat leaves and flowers, increased l0-fold after suppression ofP. jocosatrix. Comparison of its larval biology with the mango shoot caterpillar showed thatA. illepidariapreferred slightly older, developing leaves. Survival ofA. illepidariawas low on very young leaves, which were highly suitable forP. jocosatrix. Introduced biological control agents acted as keystone predators, preventing the mango shoot caterpillar from preempting mango as a resource for the other Lepidoptera species.
