摘要:
Optical isomers of pine sawfly sex pheromones, the acetate and propionate esters of 3,7-dimethylpentadecan-2-ol, were tested in the field and by electroantennograms (EAGs) for activity toward four species or species complexes of fall-flyingNeodiprionsawflies (Hymenoptera: Diprionidae):Neodiprion pratticomplex,Neodiprion taedae linearisRoss,Neodiprion nanulus nanulusSchedl, andNeodiprion sertifer(Geoffroy). Traps baited with the acetate of the 2S, 3S, 7S isomer caught males in all cases. The propionate form of this isomer was active in all cases exceptNeodiprion pratti pratti.N. p. prattiwere caught in traps baited with the propionate of the 2S, 3R, 7R isomer. The 2S, 3R, 7R propionate isomer elicited the greatest EAG response fromN. p. prattiantennae, whereas the 2S, 3S, 7S acetate isomer was most active with the other species.

摘要:
The rate and periodicity of the emission of the sex pheromone [(Z)-11-hexadecenal] from the pheromone glands of individual female artichoke plume moths,Platyptilia carduidactyla, were quantified. The mean rate of volatilization of (Z)-11-hexadecenal from the glands of the moths peaked at 1.52 ± 0.41 (SE) ng/min during the scotophase, and was at low levels during the entire photophase. This periodicity in emission rate paralleled the behavioral periodicity of calling by females, indicating a close coordination of the biochemical and behavioral aspects of pheromone release. The highest recorded emission rate from a femaleP. carduidactylawas 5.1 ng/min. No other pheromone-like compounds were detected in these pheromone collections.

摘要:
Varying infestation of alfalfa by the seed chalcid,Bruchophagus roddiGussakovsky, is explained by antixenosis during oviposition. Our studies suggest that alfalfas with glandular-haired and tightly coiled pods are resistant. Oviposition resulted in seed damage even when larvae did not develop. Seed abortion was 33% in seed chalcid exposed and 16% in unexposed seed pods. The black or brown marks left on developing seeds by ovipositing females may be used in designing laboratory experiments to predict resistance in the field.

摘要:
Selected citrus peel oils and oil constituents were tested for toxicity to eggs and larvae of laboratory-reared and wild Caribbean fruit flies,Anastrepha suspensa(Loew). In general, the responses of both laboratory-reared and wild fly eggs to these agents were quite similar. In contrast, laboratory-reared larvae were more susceptible than wild larvae to all test agents. Possible explanations for the observed difference in larval susceptibility are presented.

摘要:
In the article “Estimation and Analysis of Parasitoid Search and Attack Parameters from Field Data” by Jean Chesson, which appeared in the June 1982 issue ofEnviron. Entomol., the author would like to correct an error in equation 7 on page 532 that was in the original manuscript. Equation 7 should read as follows:
