AbstractThe compositions ofAbies sachalinensis(Fr. Schm.) Mast. andA. mayrianaMiy. et Kudo needle essential oils were analysed on non‐chiral and chiral GC columns. Both oils were characterized by high proportions of bornyl acetate and (‐)‐camphene. The (‐)‐enantiomers of α‐ and β‐pinene, camphene, limonene and β‐phellandrene predominated and amounted to 80% of the monoterpene hydrocarbons. The monoterpene composition was used to study the differences between the two species. Cluster analysis tended to separateA. sachalinensisandA. mayrianainto two major groups. AbstractThe composition of the essential oils from different aerial parts ofArtemisia argenteaL'Hér. was analysed by GC and GC‐MS. The oils were isolated separately from flower heads, and from leaves collected during the flowering period and the vegetative phase of the plant. The composition of the oils did not differ to a large extent. The three oil samples consisted mainly of monoterpenes (67–73%). α‐Phellandrene (25–27%) was the dominant component of the oils analysed, while isopinocamphone (cis‐3‐pinanone; 7–12%) was the second most important monoterpene. The sesquiterpene fraction amounting to 21–27% of the oils, was dominated by β‐caryophyllene (5–8%) and β‐eudesmo

AbstractThe composition of the essential oil ofBlumea brevipes(Oliv.&Hiern) Willd. isolated by hydrodistillation was analysed by GC and GC‐MS. AbstractThe stem‐leaf liverwort,Chiloscyphus pallidus(Mitt.) Engel&Schuster (Jungermanniales) emits an intense smell reminiscent of the stink bug (Pentatomidae). An ether extract of this species which was collected in New Zealand, was analysed by GC‐MS. The major constituent was identified as (E)‐dec‐2‐enal by spectral data of its 2,4‐dinitrophenylhydrazone and oxime‐tert‐butyldimethylsilyl derivatives.
