摘要:
AbstractThis paper explores collaborative practice by examining the modes of thought and action that nursing and medicine use in dinical problem solving. The characteristics that define and differentiate nursing and medicine establish the perspectives of the professions, and these perspectives contribute to and limit the two different ways of interpreting reality. In collaborative practice, the set of problems defined by a specific client and by each discipline becomes part of the context of clinical problem solving for both nurses and physicians. Means are suggested to clarify the process of nursing assessment or diagnosis and its relationship to corresponding processes in medicine. Such analysis helps to define the contributions that nursing makes to health care.

摘要:
AbstractClients' motivation to engage in health promotion, health maintenance, and risk‐reduction activities has been of long‐standing concern to public health nurses. While health practices are often attributed to motivation, no measurement of this construct has existed to assist us in either assessing or developing interventions relative to this characteristic. This study reports additional psychometric data on a new multidimensional measurement of motivation and examines selected predictors of the measurement The test‐retest correlation over a two‐week period for the total instrument was 0.86. Age, sex, and educational level accounted for 18 percent of variance in the total construct Age, sex, educational level, and income differentially explained 15,15,9, and 11 percent of the respective ante in the construct's four separate dimensions‐judgment, behavior, competency, and intemaYextemal cue responsiveness. The results provided evidence of the stability of the health selfdeterminism index (HSDI) and supported the significant contributions of four sododemographic tmiables in predicting total and subscale scores. The HSDI may prove to be useful to public health nurses in dent assessment and as a guide for developing specific intewentions at both the individual and aggrega

摘要:
AbstractThis study assessed undergraduate student perceptions regarding homevisitingwithpartnersdutingthepublkh ealthnursing clinical experience. Approximately 130 public health nursing students completed a self‐administered questionnaire at the end of their clinical experience. Students identified positive aspects of visiting with partners as support, safety, and collaboration. On ranked items, they identified support as the most important benefit from visiting in pairs. Feedback, safety, and ventilation were next in importance, while expertise of the partner and economic considerations wererankedasleastimportant Visitingwith oneconsistent partner was first choice in making visits, fonOWed by visits with rotating partners, and finally, visits with staff nurses or alone. These findings suggest that making home visits with a parlner can be a beneficial experience, increasing the support perceived by undergraduate students and enhancing learning through feedback and collaboratio

摘要:
AbstractThis prospective, comparative study investigated variables in 60 recently widowed older men and women at three to four months and nine to 10 months after bereavement and compared them with an age‐matched of nonbereaved. Major sections of the Duke University Older Americans' Resources and Services multidimensional functional assessment questionnaire were used to measure physical and mental health and social and economic resources. The Zung self‐rating depression. scale (ZSDS) was used to evaluate the amount of depression. Subjects' scores were compared at Times 1 and 2 with scores of the comparison group. The bereaved were most impaired on physical health and economic resources: 18 percent were classified as moderately to severely depressed by the ZSDS and at both Times 1 and 2 they had significantly poorer scores than nonbereaved on all variables except social resources. For both groups, social and economic resources correlated highly with physical and mental health. Only for nonbereaved did age show a relationship to physical health and depression. Further research should focus on specific components of social resources and on evaluating interventions to reestablish social networks and mobilize social resour

摘要:
AbstractNumerous Hispanics of low socioeconomic status come from the countryside of underdeveloped countries to the industrialized cities of the United States. Because they are becoming the largestminority in this country, health professionals should be aware of their cultural differences when evaluating or treating them to eliminate the risk of misinterpreting non only their symptoms but their response to treatment.
