摘要:
SUMMARYCosts per patient day are explained with reference to the age, dependency, and sex mix of residents, their degree of physical handicap and behavioural disturbance, and ward size. The number of occupied beds is found to be a significant determinant of costs, and becomes increasingly important as the residents become younger or more dependent. In general, a ward in which the majority of residents are young or dependent minimises its costs when 24 beds are occupied; but the least cost size for wards in which all residents are heavily dependent may be less than 10 beds.

摘要:
SUMMARYThe study examined the concept of “care” used by professional staff in one Social Service and one Health Service environment serving the community. Information was collected by using the children's Day Schedule which gave detailed information on what happened to each child. The results showed that children were treated as individuals within the group setting and “care” must cater for this, that orientation of care is influenced by factors other than initial training, and that good staffing levels are the key to go

摘要:
SUMMARYCentral to the educational needs and development of any pupil with severe learning difficulties should be the procedure of assessment, programme planning, recording, and evaluation.Part 1 of this paper details the methodology of educational priority teaching which exists at Melland School. Part 2, which will be published in the next issue of the Journal, outlines the programme of structured opportunities for leisure. The important issue of planning for and teaching generalisation of skills is broached. The paper shows how, through widely differing activity content, the needs of the “whole child” are being

摘要:
SUMMARY10 children with severe learning difficulties were involved in an integration project with 10 6 – 7‐year‐old children from a local first school. The project entailed fortnightly afternoon sessions, generally held at the first school. Each session encompassed some whole group singing and language games, plus art and craft activities. The latter were highly structured and involved pairs of special and mainstream children working on cooperative tasks. The results of the project from the points of view of special and mainstream children, staff, and parents are considered. Implications, particularly those relating to organisation of integration experiences, are disc
