摘要:
ABSTRACTThis paper reports observations on peat erosion made during a heavy rain storm on the island of Yell, Shetland. Storm water stripped a surface crust from unvegetated peat. The effect of this was to remove large quantities of peat and to expose the underlying peat to other erosion forces.

摘要:
ABSTRACTA glacier advance in Teleki Valley, Mount Kenya, that extended to an altitude of about 4200 m a.s. 1. was14C dated to between 4135±70 and 6070±225 BP. The younger date was obtained on organic-rich lacustrine sediments from a tarn dammed by a moraine and the older date on organic matter enbedded in till beneath the lacustrine sediments.During the climatic event that caused this advance the equilibrium line altitude must have been at least 200 m lower than at present. The lowering of the equilibrium line altitude could have been caused by a reduction of the mean temperature by approximately 1.2°C or by a combination of a smaller change in temperature and an increase in precipitation.

摘要:
ABSTRACTIn the area of the last ice-divide north of Idre there are some very distinct ridges consisting of relative coarse material. The location of the ridges, their almost strictly parallellism, their shape, and their long extension give the impression that they were formed through accumulation in open crevasses due to tension during the last stage of the ice melt in the area.

摘要:
ABSTRACT“Kursu-valleys”and“skuror”are special types of meltwater canyons in solid rock found in Sweden. A northern and a southern concentration are observed in the Norrbotten area and in the south Swedish Highland, respectively. This paper deals with some observations from the southern area. In this area it is apparent that many canyons are incised into rock plateaux. For these localities a subglacial origin is proposed. Alternative explanations cannot be excluded for other localities.

摘要:
ABSTRACTThe River Fyrisån is a very well documented river. In the thirties, that is to say, exactly 50 years ago, Filip Hjulström concluded his well-known work on the morphological activities of rivers. In this work, the River Fyrisån was used as an example to illustrate sediment transport.Hjulström's investigation of the transport of suspended sediments will now be partially repeated. An explanation to a change in the load of suspended material will be sought in a changed land use system. To study the behaviour of sediment peaks, a continously monitoring“Surface Scatter Turbidimeter”is being used.

摘要:
ABSTRACTX-ray radiography is a superior method of showing structures in recently deposited sediments. Annually laminated sediments have been proved to exist in Lakes Lilla Ullfjärden and Stora Ullfjärden using this method. The variation in time and space of the rate of sediment accumulation is possible to estimate from the radiographs. It is also, possible to trace the effect of eutrophication in time and space.

摘要:
ABSTRACTIn an investigation by Syrén andÅse (1984) it was found that the outlets of nearly all lakes in the County of Uppsala had been influenced by human activities such as trenching and damming. Nevertheless, the altitudes of the lake levels tend to group themselves to specific altitude intervals. There seems to be some grounds for assuming that these levels correspond to transgressions or stillstands in sea-level during the general uplift of the land. One reason is probably a“statistical”one. If sea-level remains at the same altitude for a long time, the waves tend to make a broad terrace at this particular elevation. Thus, the altitude curves will be less dense at this level and the probability for lake basins to develop will increase.

摘要:
ABSTRACTIn preparation for an archaeological excavation at a road construction site, the top-soil was removed from a strip approximately 20 m wide. Before the excavation, the area was thermally imaged from helicopter one August night. Variations in temperature seen in the thermal images could be linked to archaeological remains that were later found. The reason for this is, that buried house foundations etc. have a positive influence on the ground's capacity to store energy, which results in a higher temperature at the surface of the ground above these objects.
