摘要:

To best preserve the dental tissue and the pulp, an optimal cavity wall treatment is essential for taking full advantage of adhesive restorations. After analyzing the reasons for discrepancies between the results from laboratory and clinical studies, competing techniques of cavity wall treatment are evaluated. It is concluded that etching both the enamel and the dentin simultaneously, immediately coating with the chemically adhesive bonding agent, and placing the composite (without cement lining) is the simplest, surest, and most biologically protective technique.

The technique used to treat cervical erosion lesions that are buried beneath the crest of the gingival tissue is described. With proper isolation of the field and careful gingival retraction as prerequisites, the surface topography of the completed restoration is almost indistinguishable from the adjacent enamel, and the gingival tissue response is good.

Five new visible light‐cure cavity liners/bases that contain fluoride were evaluated for fluoride release over an 8‐month period. A case in which the use of a silk bonded splint bridge was incorporated as a basis for porcelain veneer fabrication is discussed. The results of the treatment indicate that silk bonding may represent an acceptable conservative treatment alternative for patient care.
